Then There’s THIS

The day on the ships will come soon enough. I want to start with my last stop in Buffalo today.
If you go to Dallas you must visit The Sixth Floor Museum, which is located on the sixth floor of the old Texas School Book Depository Building. They have the window from which Oswald fired the shots that killed JFK blocked off (and set up similarly to the way it was found), and massive displays about JFK’s presidency, the assassination, the conspiracy theories, and so much more. It is a wonderful repository of the history of that awful day.
If you go to Washington DC you can visit Ford’s Theater, where President Lincoln was shot, and the rooming house across the street where he died the next morning.
Then there’s this.
The top photo is a median in a residential area in Buffalo. The lower photo shows the significance of the spot: it is where president William McKinley was fatally shot as he attended the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo in 1901.
The marker shows the site where McKinley was attacked, where the Temple of Music stood during the Pan-American Expo.
Yeah, that’s weird, isn’t it.
Now, elsewhere in Buffalo, you can find a large museum erected on the spot where Teddy Roosevelt took the oath of office after McKinley’s death eight days after the shooting.
As for the site itself…well, it was nice to see the residents had their recycling bins set out for trash pick-up.

That's definitely a weird spot for a President to be assassinated at! I mean, not that there are any good spots to be assassinated at!

To be fair, there was a building there in 1901.

@moffittjc — forward thinking wasn’t the rule of the day then. (Kind of like now in some places…

@FourWalls True, and most of their decisions was born out of necessity, not convenience.

I’m glad it’s in a nice neighborhood and not one full of rundown buildings!
The Sixth Floor is one of the best museums I’ve ever been to. Period.

@FourWalls - The Sixth Floor was an impressive museum, I would like to see more like this one.

I think McKinley has been forgotten (as has Garfield, even though there’s a marker showing where he was shot in DC), so I would imagine the neighborhood isn’t overrun with tourists gawking at the marker.

@FourWalls Yes, it just seems out of place, but I definitely wouldn't want to move it.

Apparently progress knows no bounds. That's a lovely little spot. Too bad it's in the median. Be safe.

They were thoughtful enough to NOT put it in the middle of the road.
