Sometimes, I Lose Hope in Humanity

I arrived in the Philippines last Friday and unfortunately, I forgot to bring some important things. Not to mention my postpaid Globe sim card to connect to local internet. So, I began finding if there was a free wi-fi in the airport. There were a few and I guess but limited connectivity. I managed to connect to one free wi-fi in the airport, so I was able to contact a friend who could get me a Grab driver. The internet was unstable, so I was not able to get the update of the booking. It made me lose my first Grab driver. I saw a Globe booth and said in their notice "Free Globe Sim Card". Upon asking the man in-charge it turned out there wasn't anymore, and you have to buy a sim in order to get one. OR was the notice only card-stocking? I told him somewhat indirectly I only needed the connection for a few minutes for a Grab driver, but I did not see any signs of humanity willing to help. He was even saying an excuse in order not to help. I was thinking if I were him, I would make someone connect to my net because it would not make me lose anything. And it is always what I do when somebody asks me for an internet connection. So, I had to look for an ATM machine to withdraw money for the sim card. So, I came back to booth and bought the sim from him. He became a lot nicer now because I bought a sim. A typical Filipino trait in Manila. I am from Manila as well. I have lived in Manila for quite some time already, but I'd say I am quite different though.
Anyways, these days I think that money can do kindness can't in situations like I experienced. It's hard to be in a situation where both have no mutual benefits. But you know, in the back of my head that time, I just thought that he needed sales and that he was in much more dire need of money than I did.
The picture was taken by me from my condominium unit overlooking Quezon City in Metro Manila.

That is sad to hear, I am originally from the Philippines too and when I visited there in 2019, nobody would want to help me out. But when they found out that I am a US citizen and was there with my American husband, their demeanor to me changed completely. Maybe it's the thought of having to benefit monetarily from someone, or you know, everything that they can monetize from you, they will.
I don't mean to sound pessimistic, there are still good and kind-hearted people there in Manila, but can't help but empathize with your experience.

I am sorry that happened to you. Is there not a help desk at the airport?!! That seemed strange.. Maybe you can have that incident reported to Globe customer service.
