During a discussion with one of the Mylot folks from California, I got an idea. Now, normally such an idea comes in the domain of a Tutorial, a blog or a video series. Anyways let's begin. Geography of India: The Hills, Plains and Desert In the northern part of India, we have the Himalayas which span Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. There are low elevation hills as well as high altitude ones like Ladakh. Some places are upto 6500 M above sea level. Many of these areas have temperate to cold weather even during the summers. Second : Northern - Indo-Gangetic plains spanning from Punjab to Bihar and is a fertile agricultural belt. These areas have extremes of weather - what we call as the Continental Climate. Third : A big tract of land in North Western India: the Thar Desert. It is mainly in the state of Rajasthan. It has some places where mercury crosses 50 C in the summers & fall below zero (-2 to -4 C) during the extreme winters. Boring or interesting?

Interesting and thanks for explaining. Those desert temperatures sound bizarre.

@JudyEv Yes but surprisingly the people in that state handle things with a lot of patience and happiness. They have a distinctly colorful attire :

@just4him Yes extremely hot to extremely cold. Plus all varieties in between. Some areas in Northern Mountains have mercury dipping below - 40 C during the winters, mainly due to their elevations above 4000 or even 5000 M.

@just4him Yes but people live there with a great spirit. Interestingly the folks who live with such hardships are more honest and helpful than us who have more modern life comforts !
