It is odd that the United States Coast Guard (USCG) requests assistance from a cruise ship to help them rescue a small boat that was in the ocean around 1 am local time where one of the passengers aboard the small boat was dealing with a medical emergency 30 nautical miles away from Castle Island in the Bahamas.
The name of the cruise ship is called Carnival Mardi Gras who was going to the first port of call in Aruba.
The cruise ship sent a speedboat to rescue the two passengers aboard the sailboat as well as a lifeboat which lasted two hours when they found the sailboat in the ocean.
The two passengers who are American citizens were picked up by the cruise ship speedboat and taken aboard the cruise ship where they are being treated for their medical conditions which were not released to the public.
The Carnival Mardi Gras will spend eight days in the area where ports of call will include Aruba, Turks and Caicos, Grand Turk and other islands before returning to Port Canaveral on August 13.

Most likely the cruise ship was closer to the small boat than the USCG was.

That is very true that cooperation is the best when a rescue mission is needed.

I'm glad the cruise ship had a boat to rescue the two sailboat passengers.

The same feelings I have that cruise ships have speed boats aboard their ships these days.

The cruise ship must have been closer and have gotten there faster than the coast guard. Good for Carnival. Hope the two are ok.
