The North Side of the Blue Ridge Parkway

My experiences with the Blue Ridge Parkway, a gorgeous 469-mile national parkway, have all been on the southern side. The southern terminus of the Parkway is near the Oconaluftee Visitor Center on the North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The northern part, however, begins where yesterday’s travel discussion ends: just outside of the southern entrance of the Shenandoah National Park. You literally leave the park and Skyline Drive and you’re on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I want to drive the entire parkway one day. That wasn’t accomplished this trip; however, I did get a few miles in on the northern side.
As you can see, the views are amazing!
Down in North Carolina you’ll find 29 tunnels, Mount Mitchell (the highest point east of the Mississippi), Linville Falls, and so many other cool places. In Virginia, I drove past dozens of overlooks, stopping at many, before getting off on my way to Appomattox. That’s where I found the previously-mentioned Crabtree Falls.
So that’s most of what I stopped to see on my trip. As soon as my back gets better there’ll be leaves a-changin’ for me to go look at!!!
Thank y’all for riding along!!

I saw a few Colorado plates and I had to wonder what those people thought of what “we” call “mountains” here.

@FourWalls If I could, I'd live in the Blue Ridge from April through October. I don't want to be there when it snows. I don't do snow anymore if I can help it.

I guess going through the mountain is easier than going over it.

@FourWalls That is for sure, but I during summer I would gladly go up the Gotthard pass than staying in line 2 hours to go under and stay inside the tunnel 35 minutes.

It always looks magical to me. But you’re so right, when those mountains are filled with color it’s unbelievable!

You bet! There’s a National Parks Service live camera in Shenandoah NP, and that’s amazing to gawk at in the fall. The Smokies’ cams, too.
