This is an interesting bit of news.
Evangelicals Are Now Rejecting 'Liberal' Teachings of Jesus - Newsweek, Aila Slisco, 8/9/23
A prominent Evangelical clergyman, Russell Moore, a former top official for the Southern Baptist Convention, is concerned that American Evangelicals are deciding that the teachings of Jesus are no longer relevant and that the church should be preaching the words of Donald Trump.
These right-wing Evangelicals find Jesus and his words too "weak" and refer to the Beatitudes as "liberal talking points." They see Jesus' teachings as subversive.
Have some American Evangelicals turned their backs on Jesus' teachings to adopt Trump as their spiritual leader? Pastor Moore seems to think so. What do you think?

The disturbing thing is that millions of Americans are going for it. Granted, the vast majority of them are undereducated, untraveled, and uninformed about the world outside their hometowns, but there are some who are knowledgeable, who've seen a good bit of the world, and should not be susceptible to getting sucked into Trump's delusion.

I think this is RIDICULOUS! That man is in the news every day; and I'm certain he revels in it. I'm tired of seeing him.

I think people will look to anything/anyone for a savior instead of forming and living by their own set of morals and common sense to save themselves. They want a scapegoat.

I find it hard to swallow that any true Christian would think Trump is their man. There are very few good things you can say about the man, but a whole host of bad ones!

@Fleura Paul is famous for having been a pleaser in many ways. Hence the no-women preachers rule. This was a rule he gave to a patriarchal society of the first century. To continue to apply it today shows no respect for the flow of history or the changes in society.
I think one of the reasons Jesus didn't leave clear, written instructions was because he knew society would change and evolve and his teachings would be applied within the context of the times. Now, though, American Evangelicals no longer want to apply or live by his teachings at all. They want to go back to the Old Testament eye for an eye. They truly have become the American Taliban and the worst of them are as bad as ISIS.

@DWDavis I get the impression that he didn't like this new liberal ideology, but instead of berating them from the 'outside' as it were, he claimed to be 'one of them' and then proceeded to tell them what to do and not do. And the things he tells them not to do imply that they were doing those things (that's why he felt the need to tell them not to) - for example he tells the new churches that women should not be allowed to preach. And ever since then 'Christian' teaching has actually mostly followed Paul's instructions. Of course Jesus made a big mistake in not leaving clear written instructions for his followers, leaving the field open for others to step in.
