What do you use to get rid of ants?

I have pets and pet food attracted ants. I can't use something toxic because I have cats. Ants won't stop and they keep coming. They can't be stopped because they are small and they come from our balcony. I tried different ways to get rid of them, but they keep coming from my balcony. Outside they have plenty of food, but they still prefer our house. I am so tired of problems because we have cats. They ate pet food. Now they attacked our food. They are in the kitchen.

Outside I use insect powder, but inside I do not want to spread chemicals. I have bought "ants traps", there is something inside that attract them, they bring the paste to their nest and this kills the ants and the larvae.

@dya80dya I do not want to use chemicals. I only see some very tiny ants in the kitchen, nowhere in other places inside the house.

I live in an apartment and I am not sure if they have a nest here. Outside I leave them alone, they don't bother me. Chemicals can be dangerous for us.

@dya80dya You place water in a plate and then the bowl with the food is placed inside it The ants cannot reach the food.

Straight poison sad to say. I hate it but my brother sprays our house outside with straight poison and it pretty much kills everything. Tiny bit of life of lizards but so small and disjointed, its kind of sad but no insects, makes family more happy. Why lizards so small if not poisoned themself no insects to eat. Its amazing how people effect things.

I believe that it's not possible to completely eliminate ants from the house 100% of the time, but their presence can be reduced by using specialized floor-cleaning materials designed to eliminate and repel ants.

I will have to buy one of those if it's not toxic to my cats.

@dya80dya Oh, I think you should carefully choose a type that is effective against ants only and doesn't cause harm to humans or household pets
