Abby of Long Leaf Lane is missing. Well, not all of the story. I still have one of the short stories I extricated from the draft of the novel I was writing with Abby as the main protagonist for Wil, the main character. What I'm missing is the file with the rest of the draft manuscript. The problem is, I don't remember what the working title of the draft was. It's been a couple of years since I worked on it last. This is what I get for not doing a better job of organizing my files. Have you ever lost track of a computer file because you couldn't remember the name you gave it?

Yes, I have. I finally resorted to opening every file until I found what I needed again. Then I set out to organize everything I had on the computer. It was a pain in the tush but I got it all done finally. Good luck finding the file(s) you need.

I'm beginning to despair of ever finding them. I may have to resort to the opening every file method.

Yes, many times. I've even lost entire discs with my homework, back when the floppy was a thing.

Using and transporting those floppy discs was such a pain. It's hard to believe I now have a 1TB SSD external hard drive that's no bigger than one of those old 3.5" floppies.

I'm starting to wonder if I only imagined writing more of the story.

I have, but nothing as important as a manuscript. Hope you find it.

The manuscript is one I'd decided not to publish, but there were some scenes and chapters that could make great short stories. The one I did clip and save just got published in an online magazine. I think there is the makings of a series if I could find the rest.

Part of my problem is that I keep too many old copies of stories, thinking I may want to go back and use parts I discarded.

No. I keep writing files in a writing folder; and I have very few pieces in it. I have different files for different subjects. I hope you find your file.
