This is the 10th anniversary of National Preparedness Month which both encourages and highlights all resources available to help people stay as safe as possible. It is to help people be prepared for any disaster that could befall them, their homes, communities, and businesses. This is observed each year to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies that might happen at any time. We should also recognize during this time the sacrifices and bravery of our first responders. The government decided on September because of the September 11 attacks and because the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is in the middle of September. The Department of Homeland Security has designated September to educate the public on the importance of being prepared for any disaster that could arise. The aim is to reduce the possible fallout of any large-scale emergency by helping both young and old to be prepared ahead of time.

Everyone should be prepared for any emergency, especially if you are in a hurricane or tornado-prone area. Thanks for the reminder. Have a good holiday weekend.

I think so too. But, one question: How do you prepare for an earthquake? Have a great weekend.

@celticeagle You can't. We had no idea ours was coming. Thank goodness it wasn't a big one. The ones that San Francisco had are frightening.
