So Frustrated with my Doctor

My current doctor replaced my female doctor I had for some 30 years. She retired at the end of 2018. I met him in the spring of 2019 where he rushed me out telling me only one issue per visit. I moved to the nurses' office in tears. They told me they have had a lot of complaints about this. He has since become nicer. But, a year later came the lockdown and all contact with him was over the phone.
I have seen him a couple of times since but he is very sporadic in his attendance in the office and his bedside manner. My last visit was an "annual physical" where I was able to mention a few problems. We had 30 minutes and stressed the importance of getting through everything. Then he asked about my mental health. He leaned back in his chair and engaged me in a lengthy conversation. I think this guy wants to be a psychiatrist/psychologist. "I can read people", he said, "I could see in your eyes, the way you walked in here, your body language".
Okay, fine. He recommended some books I read. When he called me a month later to review my blood work he asked me stupid questions. "Do you have diabetes?" he asked. He's got my records right in front of him and my blood results. "Do you take a cholestrol pill?" he asks. Again, what in the heck is he talking about? "You have kidney disease," he says. "No." I've told him several times that my internal medicine specialist who is monitoring my kidneys has assured me that they are damaged but stable.
I asked him about referring me to a dermatologist for a mole in my ear. He said I would have to come in for that. Excuse me? I was just IN the office and showed him the mole (which at that time he said was not a mole but a cancer lesion... you can't tell it's cancer until you test it).
I feel our health cards should be attached to our files. The way to put a name to a face.
Fortunately, I had an issue that I took to a walk-in clinic (because my doctor is an hour's drive away and takes 3 weeks to get in to see because he is out of the office so often). At the clinic I got the sweetest, most wonderful doctor who... IS ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS! Yup, I'm transferring to this doctor. I told my doctor's office that it was basically because of the distance. However, he has all records on the computer. The clinic still works with paper files. In order to transfer my files he has to download them to a flash drive and I have to drive the hour to pick it up AND pay $55. Will the clinic even take a flash drive? That I will have to find out.
I am so happy to have found this new doctor. Even texted my daughter and told her she was accepting new patients. My daughter has been on a waiting list for years. Seems the hospital is not aware of this new doctor. Once everything is straightened out I am going to be so happy. Oh, the most important thing is that she is fibromyalgia friendly.
This "broken system" my doctor tells me every time I talk to him, may not be as broken as he has indicated.

Unfortunately the walk-in clinics that used to be called "After Hours Clinics" are not really walk-in. They require appointments. Another reason why I'm signing up with the doctor at this clinic. Though you can still walk-in, it's easier to make an appointment.

@patgalca Oh yes of course you want reliability not just the clinic I know. This doctor too that I found has his own office for appointments.

@RebeccasFarm When I think about it, my doctor that is an hour away also works out of a clinic.

I am so glad you found a new doctor, thank the Lord! I remember once I had to find a new primary care doctor, and when he saw my records, he said fibromyalgia did not exist, and was a disease women made up in their head. I told him off, and walked out. So I am so happy for you. No one deserves disrespect like you got.

I did interview a doctor here in town a couple of years ago. But he was not fibro-friendly. He said he wouldn't fill out the paperwork to renew my disability tax credit. That I was on medication and functioning just fine. When I left the secretary asked if I was registering with him and I said, "No, he is not fibro friendly". So I stayed with my current doctor hoping one day to find someone. When I saw this new doctor I said, "I understand you are accepting new patients." She confirmed that. Then I said, "Are you fibromyalgia friendly?" And she said she has plenty of patients who have fibromyalgia. Sealed the deal for me.

Sounds like my doctor's office. Each time I go, they hyper focus on one thing and make me feel frustrated. Last month I was staying at the Daytona Beach Regency for our owner's orientation. So, when we finished, I was able to get my frustration out in the pool and hot tub. Needless to say, if I leave there feeling more of the same, I will likely beg my husband to take me over there (they said we could come anytime we want), and work on my frustration there.

Thank you. She is very young... probably fresh out of medical school. But at least I know she won't be retiring anytime soon. And you can tell, even when she has the mask on, she is always smiling. That's the kind of doctor who makes you feel good.

That is why these first encounter interviews are so important. Get to know the doctor. The doctor gets to know you and then you can decide whether you want to switch or not. Having me sign over my records immediately and then learning after the fact the hassle that was going to be has irked me. Going to try and get out of it.
