Do you ever get miffed when the media perpetuates false narratives about crime in the US?

One of my pet peeves, along with texting drivers, has always been when the media perpetrates false narratives about crime in our Country. In the case I cite here, a woman who was said to be "unarmed" was shot by police after fleeing from an attempted carjacking. But video footage has shown that she had a pistol, and that she pointed that pistol in the direction of police officers who were chasing her. So often, when I hear about crime in the US, the news makes it sound like innocent criminals were brutally shot by overzealous cops who were in no real danger. I'm sure this (overzealous or under-trained cops) happens sometimes, but I honestly believe that most cops are doing the best they can, much as I believe that most criminals don't really want to kill anyone. Let me know what you think of this video. I am sure the woman who was ranting and raving in the report has since apologized, and is now praising the officers in question for protecting her community. But just the fact that she could get so bent out of shape before all of the facts were in makes me scratch my head. Have you ever suspected that media presented a false narrative about something?

I do notice that the news media like to paint police officers as monsters when they do their job to stop a crime in progress when they paint the criminal as a victim makes me angry for slanting the story to start a race war.

I try to ignore race. The criminals cannot be right "most" of the time.

Do they (the media) want "white supremacists" to come down from their "compounds" and start being mean to people of color? It's crazy.

Not really, I think they do the best they can for the most part. Do they get things wrong sometimes? Sure, we all do.

@snowy22315 I think they do as well. But it sure is interesting how differently ABC and FOX can "spin" the same story.

When it comes to news, I never know what is or isn't real. I take all news reports (including weather) with a grain of salt.

@TheHorse Weather is ever-changing. Apple is pretty spot on with their weather app, too.

The weather people do a pretty good job here. And I trust the sports reporters about yesterday's games.

The new media likes to have a good story even if they have to add a little bit to the story.

@TheHorse That they would be boring they have more fun by adding to the story.

Perhaps OK if you're a writer of fiction. I learned "exaggeration" from Mark Twain. But the news media should report the facts, and nothing more.

I like to compare the same news published by different newspapers, that I know support different parties. Incredible how the way to present the news can be different and ambiguous.

@TheHorse I remember Trayvon Martin, the teenager who was fatally shot in Florida. I remember that the cartoonist apologized for being "ambiguous".

I do the same. For me, it really all started with the Trayvon Martin case here in the US. Do you remember that one?
