Day 67
Luke 10:1 After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself would go.
2 Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3 Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. 4 Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road. 5 But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ 6 If a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you. 7 Remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. 8 Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. 9 Heal the sick, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10 But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11 ‘The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless, know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’
17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
18 He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 22 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.”
23 Then He turned to His disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; 24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.”
Has someone appointed a special task to you, and you were eager to perform it? Were you amazed by the results when you completed your task?
Jesus appointed seventy people to go into the cities of Israel in twos. He told them what they were to bring with them, what they were to say, and how to react when the people were either favorable or unfavorable to them.
When they returned with joy, they told Him how even demons were subject to them. Jesus told them not to rejoice because demons were subject to them, but that their names were written in heaven. Then Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and praised God for revealing His power to babes. He said no one knew who the Son was except the Father and those to whom He revealed Himself. Jesus then blessed them for the things they saw and heard because those who came before them desired to see and hear those things they did.
As Christians, Jesus appointed you to go into the world and teach everyone who will listen about the kingdom of heaven. He told them to preach the gospel, baptize, and make disciples of them.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Luke 24:46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses to these things.
When you do what Jesus commissioned you to do, you will find demons subject to you too. You will do everything Jesus did and rejoice in what He does through you.
Let’s pray: Father, You commissioned me for one purpose: to spread the gospel to everyone. Don’t let me look for someone else to do what You empowered me to do in Your name. Open my mouth to tell others about Your amazing love and redemption story. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Not even to wear sandals would be harder today, with the broken glass around, and other nasties, that we can tread on.
And yet, if they did tread on a scorpion, and got bitten, they were protected against that too.
It would have been nice to have been one of those 70, sent out directly by Jesus himself with such power given to them too.

@innertalks It's good they have laws in place to safeguard you from being arrested.

@just4him The same is true now too. With Jesus backing us, and on our side, we cannot be harmed either.
These days, common sense tells us to wear shoes though, and to carry a little money, to help us get by.
They used to have a vagrancy law here, that you could be arrested, if you did not have at least some money, on your person. Perhaps that changed now, as most people only carry plastic money, or credit/debit cards on them these days.
