After lunch today, Son2 and I visited the Ft Fisher Aquarium. We got in for free because K and I are members, and Son2 and GF are members of the NC Zoo. The zoo and aquariums let each other's members in free of charge.
Son2 volunteered at the aquarium when he was in high school. I used to visit each time he had volunteer duty because I drove him down here to the island. It had been several years for both of us.
The most exciting change since our last visit was the Otter Exhibit. We knew about the exhibit but were surprised to learn the otters were not NC otters but were small-clawed Asian Otters. They are endangered and the NC Aquarium is part of a species survival program to save them.
These otters are smaller than river otters and very cute. I posted pictures on the River Sailor Instagram and a photo of the poster explaining their status.
Do you like otters? If you don't, then you otta.

I love otters! Did you see the zoo that put little holes in the walls in the otter exhibit? The otters put their little “hands” in those openings, and you get to hold hands with them. I couldn’t believe that zoo felt comfortable enough to do it, but it looks like such a treat.

Otters are cool animals to see up close and personal at an aquarium.

There are supposed to otters in the rivers around here, but I've never seen one. Way back in the 80s, when I was in Canada I spent a weekend at No No Name Lake (there was already a No Name Lake!) and saw an otter in a small stream feeding into the lake.

I LOVE otters. They are so cute and cut through the water like fast little submarines. Glad you had a good time. Have a great day.

There are no otters in Australia apart from those in zoos. I love watching them as they are so agile and elegant in the water. It's great that zoos now have these breeding programs for endangered species.
