Way back when, in the late 60s or maybe the early 70s, I got my first.
On a Friday evening I would deliver groceries by bike, after school. A bike very similar to the one in the photo, although without such a snazzy seat and handlebars. The main thing I remember was it weighted a ton and young me had some trouble pedalling it uphill! I spotted this one on a boat along the canal. There are so many things to see along that canal!
So, for a couple of hours work I got the princely sum of 50 pence, a small fortune to me at the time. To give it some context, and if I remember correctly, I could have bought 12 Mars bars and had 2 pence change

Prior to school l helped with bread deliveries & l used to get 2 shillings & six pence for 5 days. A long time has gone since the days or bread, fish, Grocery vans that did the rounds. It was great fun & you were on the run for an hour or so before school.
