An update on the washing machine situation.

The British Gas man came at about 3:00pm. My step-dad told him a story about how the washing machine broke. He said that near the end of the cycle it made a strange noise, then just stopped! I was in my bedroom at the time and heard, so I came out, and I told him that my trousers had got stuck, and my Mum showed him the trousers with the black plastic still stuck to it! The British Gas man said he thought he knew what had happened, but he'd take a look at the fridge first. (My step-dad had told him the fridge also needed looking at.) The British Gas man replaced the bulb in the fridge, which had gone, but that didn't work either! He said he'd leave the new bulb in anyway, incase it decided to spark into life! He also fixed the door, which was jutting out, by giving it a good whack! He also removed the water which was in the bottom where the vegetables usually go with what looked like a great big turkey baster! He said it does that because there's a hole in the back and if it gets blocked up and it freezes, then it melts and causes the water that was in the bottom. He told us to clean the hole out now and then with a paper towel to stop it from getting blocked. He also fixed the bottom shelf so it wasn't stopping the door from closing. Then he went to look at the washing machine. My Mum said that as soon as he tried to turn the drum, he laughed because he knew what it was. He said there's a plastic "spider" on which the drum rests, and it keeps the drum in place and turning. This spider had slipped out of place. Apparently, the black plastic stuck to my trousers is part of that spider. It must have somehow found it's way into the drum, (how I do not know!) melted in the heat, and then stuck to my trousers and to the edge of the drum, which was why I could not get my trousers out of the washing machine at first. He said the washing machine was beyond repair and we need to get a new one. We will be getting a phone call, then we will go to the shop and choose a washing machine. The British Gas man advised a Hotpoint because the parts are easier to get. With other makes it takes a while to get the parts if anything goes wrong. We will be able to get a discount on the new washing machine because of our British Gas insurance. A couple of British Gas men will collect our washing machine for us. They will disconnect the old one and then connect the new one for us. And I hope they'll also tell us how to use it! So that's my update on the washing machine situation. I hope you are all well. Have a great night.

That's good that you're getting a new washing machine. Were you able to resurrect your pants or will you have to throw them out?

I'm quite excited now about getting a new washing machine. No, we still haven't managed to get the plastic off my trousers. I've ordered some new ones. I hope they are in stock.

@sharonelton Oh wow good thing there is someone who will set it up for you. In our place we do not connect our washing machine to a gas line anymore it just attached to our water piping and electricity so basically it easy to set it up.

Good morning and thank you very much. Yes, it is a bit of an inconvenience. I don't know when we'll be getting a new washing machine yet. My step-dad is supposed to be getting a phone call first to discuss it, then choose a washing machine. Then two British Gas men will collect our new washing machine for us, disconnect the old one and then connect the new one. Then we'll have to learn how to use the new washing machine!

@rsa101 No-one was going to expect us to do it ourselves!. We don't connect our washing machine to gas! But it's not easy for us to connect our washing machine to the water pipe. And the position the washing machine is in makes it even more difficult!

@sharonelton So you’ve got a spider in your trousers. It sounds like you need a new fridge as well, and I’m supposing that neither appliance runs on gas so I’m not sure where the gas man comes in but I’m sure all will end well.

You're funny! I told my Mum I always hated spiders! The fridge is fine. We just need to keep cleaning out the hole at the back now and then. We have both our electric and gas from British Gas. I know it sounds strange, but we do! They have a lot of different engineers that do different things and our insurance covers several different appliances. The only thing we have that actually runs on gas is our boiler.

Thank you very much. No, the washing machine has had it I'm afraid. It can't be fixed and we have to get a new one. It says so in the post.
