Stop Being a Phubber

It is a term that best describes a person who does not focus on talking with someone while being with him or her. Instead, he or she focuses more on using his or her mobile phones. If you are one of them, then you are "phubbing." Being a "phubber can destroy the relationship with people close to him or her. It can be related to being addicted to mobile games, surfing the internet, using social media, and so on. The term is a combination of "phone" and "snub." Are you a phubber? What would be your call for those people who phub?

I talk to people on the phone when I have to but prefer to text with them... I also use my phone to play solitaire and earn extra money that way. My phone is a tool for my use, not so people I don't really want to communicate with can reach me at their convenience. I would tell other people like me "Good job!"

I think it is acceptable to use mobile phones when calling someone if not being with him or her physically. It is another story when bonding together at home but not focusing on talking with family members. For the reason that he or she is looking at her smartphones without looking at them.

@Shavkat Sometimes Pretty will text me from her bedroom... usually to ask me to come talk to her.

@DaddyEvil I can relate to that. I sometimes send a message to my immediate family members with the certain concerns, despite living with them under the same roof.

It is annoying when visitors bring their phone and attend to calls that they receive.

I used to have some friends who are like this. Sometimes if they are really have this habit, I turned down their invitations to see them. I do not want to be left out in this sense.

@Shavkat Unless they are expecting some urgent call there is no need for them to keep their phone on.

@allknowing You are right. That situation is a valid one to consider.

Yes and no. I do know how to put the phone down believe it or not. But, it's not uncommon for me to multi-task, too. I will use my phone, but I'm still engaged with conversation around me, too.

I must admit that I alway do multi-tasking especially when teaching online. It is a part of soft skill to carry out the tasks online. I am talking while typing at the same time for the students to understand certain things. Some of them have poor listening skills.

I am glad that you have not encountered people who phub when talking with them in person. I must say that it is irritating sometimes, especially if you keep on repeating the concerns with them again and again.

I also do not mind if they are not close to me. Or, if they are not affecting my life. I used to deal with these people at my workplace before. That is why I prefer to work at my own pace than being with them.

Nope, I have no one to talk to and no mobile phone so I am certainly not a phubber. When I do talk to someone I give them my whole undivided attention,

It is an ideal thing to do. At some point, I noticed this with the young ones. They even use their mobile phones while eating on the table with the rest of the family. For me, it should be stopped.

I have never heard this term before . . . but I definitely know people who are phubbers. I am definitely NOT a phubber. I am that other person who gets annoyed at phubbers. I made my kids read this .

@Shavkat Right - I have to tell the kids to stop being phubbers . I want the other person to know I am giving them my full attention . . . but I expect the same from them . . . I will get mad at phubbers .

I think it is a good idea to show them. They can surely relate to this. I am not also a phlubber because I try my best to be a good listener.

Nothing wrong with technology and surfing the internet as long as you do not get carried away.

I am not. There’s nothing worse than being with someone who is always fiddling with their phone.

There are some instances that I encountered such people in certain facilities, like in the supermarket, shops, etc. I politely tell them to stop doing this or else, I am going to report them to their higher-ups.
