Red Lobster

Yesterday we decided to have dinner in Baton Rouge on the way home after my husband's doctor appointment. I had a gift certificate for a choice between Longhorn Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and a few other that we didn't even have. We were deciding between those 3 places. Since we had been to Longhorn recently and a couple of years since we had visited Red Lobster, we chose to go there. Big mistake! We got there ahead of the dinner crowd and there was only about 2-3 other diners seated. But, we had to wait for a table. We waited and waited. The hostess said she would be right back. She came back and we waited some more. Finally, she told us to follow her. She gets to the back to seat us and someone hollers, no not that section. They were changing shifts and this was what all the commotion was about. She finally got the message as to what section the new waitress had and seated us. We both ordered the endless shrimp and the crab dip appetizer since my hubby's blood sugar was dropping. We waited for at least 30 minutes for our appetizer. We ate that at a leisurely pace. I would say a good 20-30 minutes. We finished it. Then started the wait for our entrees. My husband noticed the table a row over got their entrees already and they had been seated after us. No big deal. We continued to wait. Our food finally arrived after another 30-40 minute wait. Now another HUGE disappointment. The shrimp was all the frozen variety that you can go purchase yourself at the grocery store. Walt's favorite is a fried butterfly shrimp that was greasy and that was the only taste you got. I also noticed on the menu that all shrimp is imported. Since I have had an allergic reaction to imported shrimp before, I was a little nervous in ordering but knew Urgent Car was right down the road. I didn't have any reactions so that was indeed good! Our dining experience was not very enjoyable and it took over 2 hours and 15 minutes. What a waste of time and money! Have you had any bad experiences at Red Lobster? Or other restaurants?

We would have needed seating for three as I would have been beside myself if I had to wait that long.

I was ready to leave and go get a steak at Longhorn. I wish we had. My hubby does not like being embarrassed though.

I had only been to Red Lobster once in all the years and it was terrible. Your waiting and meal is atrocious, I am so sorry.

@RebeccasFarm I don't see them staying open much longer here in the south where you can go anywhere and enjoy fresh and local seafood.

Heard of all three of these, but don't think they are in the UK. Have to say that Red Lobster sounds less than impressive

I live in coastal state and we are used to fresh seafood here. So an imported and frozen seafood is quite disappointing!

We have two Red Lobsters within driving distance; and both are excellent. In fact, it's one of our favorite places to go. We've only had one bad experience, and that was mostly the server's fault. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I hate when that happens. The one place where we get consistently bad food is from Applebee's. We don't go there anymore. Have a great weekend.

We are spoiled here too with fresh seafood. So going to a restaurant and getting frozen imported seafood is a real bummer!

@kareng You are lucky that you can get fresh seafood. What state are you in again?

I don't think any serve fresh seafood. If restaurants on the Gulf Coast doesn't doesn't, why would the ones inland? The menu states all shrimp is imported. We already know the lobster is.

I’d say to contact them on their website, and they would probably give you a discount on your next visit, but you may never want to visit again. I did that with Zio’s (don’t know if you have that chain of Italian restaurants), and they gave me a free entree. I was so disgusted with them though, that I never went back.

I went on a mystery shop one time to Red Lobster a few months ago, and they were incredibly slow with the food. It also wasn't anything out of the ordinary...color me not impressed.

Many years ago, my family and I would eat at the Red Lobster 45 minutes away and we never had a problem.
