Ain’t This a Countdown: Ain’t Got No Money

Welcome to October! Shorter days
and cooler temperatures…except in Australia. (Sorry Judy.
) A new countdown begins, too, and it’s a grammar nazi’s nightmare: songs with ain’t in the title. Let’s kick it off with some rock and roll!
Ain’t Got No Money - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band
And, since it’s a grammar nightmare month, I might as well begin with a song that’s atrocious. Of course, we know that songs are based on meter, and “don’t have any money” wouldn’t fit.
The geek in me wants to say that this wasn’t written by the “Blackland Farmer” Frankie Miller, so for anyone who remembers that country song….this is “the other” Frankie Miller’s song.
This particular Frankie Miller is from Scotland and is more of a blues rocker. He suffered a serious brain aneurysm in 1994 that left him unable to function, resulting in a long period of therapy to help him recover. He hasn’t regained the ability to sing
but he is still widely regarded as a powerhouse in rock.
Bob Seger’s cover of this song shows that Miller was a heavyweight and well respected.
Ain’t Got No Money
Written by Frankie Miller
Recorded by Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band
From Stranger in Town, 1978

@FourWalls I think most myLotters now know that our seasons are opposite.
I keep telling them often enough.

I’m always interested to see how American superstars fare in other countries. To me, Seger seems to espouse the “American working class” (maybe because he’s from Detroit), so I’m not overly surprised that he doesn’t rule British “classic rock” radio.

@FourWalls I listen to a 70s station and Planet Rock. Can't say I've heard any of his being played. Mind you, when I listen to an online US 70s station, in LA, not a lot of songs I was familiar with. Swings and roundabouts, I guess

Definitely mind kind of song. And with all this rain I must add Ain't got nothing dry anywhere and if more rain comes down I will loose my brain

Too bad CCR’s song isn’t “Ain’t You Never Seen the Rain” so I could include it.

He was too busy working on his night moves to pay attention in English class.

I’m sorry. I’ve started on the wrong foot, apparently.
We’ll try again tomorrow.

Today’s is country….sorta…maybe…a little. I don’t think today’s will give you a migraine, but you can always come back here if you need to.
