Day 80 Luke 23:1 Then the whole multitude of them arose and led Him to Pilate. 2 They began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, saying that He is Christ, a King.” 3 Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered him and said, “It is as you say.” 4 Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no fault in this Man.” 5 But they became fiercer, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.” 6 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked if the Man was a Galilean. 7 As soon as he knew He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at the time. 8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad; for he had desired for a long time to see Him, because he had heard many things about Him, and hoped to see some miracle done by Him. 9 Then he questioned Him with many words, but He answered him nothing. 10 The chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him. 11 Then Herod, with his men of war, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, arrayed Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him back to Pilate. 12 That very day Pilate and Herod became friends, for previously they had been at enmity with each other. What makes you glad? Many people hope to see their favorite celebrities. When they do, it makes them happy. They do what they can to commemorate the occasion. Jesus was on trial before Pilate, who could find no fault in Him and sent Him to Herod when he learned He was from Galilee. Herod was exceedingly glad to see Jesus. From the moment he heard about Him, he sought an opportunity to hear Him, but until then, could not. Like Pilate, Herod questioned Him but received no answer. Then Herod mocked Him, put a robe on Him, and sent Jesus back to Pilate. Many Christians are like Pilate and Herod. When an opportunity arises for them to see their favorite artist or speaker in person, they do what they can to get a glimpse of them, even shake their hand, get an autograph, or talk to them if possible. Sometimes the opportunity sours. They find the person they want to see doesn’t live up to the hype they expected, and they go away disheartened. They were no longer glad to see and hear them, and the hunger they felt faded. Be careful about what makes you glad. People will never live up to your expectations. Jesus did not live up to Herod’s expectations. Herod wanted to see a performance. When Jesus didn’t give him one, he sent Him back to Pilate, unconvinced that He was worthy of death. Let’s pray: Father, let me stand in Your presence grateful for all You do for me. I don’t want a show or performance to prove You are God and Jesus is Your Son. Instead, let me praise You because You saved me when I accepted Your Son as my Savior and Lord. You make me glad every day I spend in Your presence, learning all I can about You. Let me see Your hand in my life and praise You every day. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 3 October 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux

Perhaps more than half of the crowd following Jesus, were like Pilate, and Herod, just wanting something from Jesus, or wanting to see a miracle. Maybe, this is why they could turn around so quickly, from praising him one week, to condemning him the next.

It doesn't take much to incite people to oppose someone they like. I'm sure there were many people who wanted to see a miracle from Him. I'm sure it is the reason why they went from praising Him to condemning Him. Have a blessed day.

@just4him Yes, even someone like Hitler, could incite, and excite, crowds with his way of talking. When I meet an enthusiastic person, I try to be careful not to be caught up in their enthusiasm too, especially if they are touting something a bit iffy, like a pyramid scheme.

I have never been one to put people up on pedestals. They are no different than anyone else. Another good bible lesson for us to learn and apply to our lives. Have a blessed day
