There is immense value to someone who reads, and studies the scriptures, and other spiritual, and holy books. These works are nourishment to us, in the living of good lives. We should feel energised, and joyful, after we read God-inspired words. We should immerse ourselves in the waters of such scriptures, every day, as it will bring us into the understanding of life, God, and love. Scripture inspires us to be hopeful in our lives. We live this hope as a living hope. We strive to be more peaceful, loving, and honest people. Hope is the spring of love in you, bursting forth in you, and giving you joy now, and into the future, too. Scripture purifies the sincere reader, and allows the truth of God to come alive, in their understanding. Reading scripture gives you the right point of view. Right views grow within your field of love, truth, and hope, cultivated in you from your reading of scripture. Scripture can shape us into the right type of people, and move us away from becoming the wrong type of person. God can become more alive in us, as we read, and we can connect to God more strongly by reading about him in scriptures. We can generate a greater love, and respect for God, through the reading of scripture too.

I agree. The more I read the Bible every day, the more I learn. When I read books on different topics, such as prayer for the Bible study class, I learn more about how prayer works in the lives of believers. We need spiritual books to bring us closer to God. You only need to be careful you don't get into wrong teaching.

@innertalks Yes, we do and that discernment only comes from the Holy Spirit.

@just4him Yes, the Holy Spirit can guide us, towards what is good, holy, and true, while warning us against all that is sinful, untrue, and unholy, for us to do.

Yes, we should be inspired and enlightened by our reading, not confused, and led up blind alleys, by pseudo-religions, and writings, that skirt the real truth, embellishing it for their own purposes. We need some discernment then, in what we read.

Yes, I try to read something spiritual every day too, especially before I go to sleep, I like to read something holy, as it sets me up for a good night's sleep then, rather than watching some violence on the television, which affects one's sleep negatively then too.

Scriptures reflect universal truth and help us stay focused on the right path. They guide us to experience and understand life. At the same we need to keep an open mind and decipher life in our own way rather than follow what is laid down blindly.

And yet, most good scripture would not be about the blind leading the blind, as good scripture should help one ready to open their eyes to truth to do so. But, yes, we should think about what is written, and adapt it into our own lives, in a way that best suits us, rather than following all that we read without thought, and which then might be open to misinterpretation too. Most problems in religion are caused by dogmatic people, thinking that they have the only one true way of interpreting it.

@Shiva49 Yes, we should accept full responsibility for ourselves, but never be too proud to listen to appropriate advice, whether from a person, or a book, too.

@innertalks Interpretations vary too and, like statistics, can be used to promote self-interests. There is no dearth of blind believers to get carried away to the extent they expect the manna to fall from heaven on their lap without them lifting a finger. Some preachers have their followers eating out of their hands too! They give enough hint that they have a direct connection to our creator. "There's a sucker born every minute" comes to mind. My approach is to take inspiration from scriptures and the lives of achievers against all odds, but take full responsibility for my actions.
