We are dog-sitting

The roommate's sister, her husband and their son came through town today and dropped off their 3 dogs. Snickers, Cookie and Lady are their names. They are now out in the back yard with my dog, Boe. They are barking off and on, and apparently racing around the yard. The roomie's sister and family are passing through Austin on the way to San Antonio to celebrate the husband's daughter from another mother. However, he raised the girl from about 7 and she, the daughter, was with them until she went to university at 18. She has a job in San Antonio and while she's been there for well over a year, she's still not got a lot of time for taking off with family. So, the 3 dogs will be crated tonight since they would probably want to play with my cats who would probably rather rip their faces off... so... yeah... Dogs... You ever dog sit?

No we don't. We're cat people. And, even then, with Chilly we're careful.

@kaylachan well, after some research on the breeds she was, a bull dog lives normally 8-10 years and a pit bull lived 8-12 years. She was 11 and the vet thought she might have cancer of the liver.

You know I'm a cat person. My wife wanted the dogs, one I had to have put to sleep over the summer, I still have the older dog. But they can't leave them locked in the house and have nobody they could safely leave them with at home. They couldn't take three crazy young dogs to the daughter's apartment, but I have a big enough yard for them. Oh, and I was told if they escape... oh well...

@ElicBxn I am sorry you had to do that. We put mama cat down last year it wasn't easy to do. I think it's good my husband and I are both cat people.

This is the first time I've actually dog sat since 2003. The gal moving back to Austin sent her dog ahead and then she stayed with us for about a month... and now I don't blame her ex from divorcing her... her dog was nice...

@ElicBxn Having to stay for a month with a difficult person sounds like a big problem.

When my older sister first moved to Kansas, I had her dogs at my house. She would not come visit them because it would make them sad, she said. Later her daughter probably had them both put down. One was a dalmatian that started having seizures when I walked her. My niece told a fancy story about what happened to Peewee and how he became a therapy animal at a horse boarding ranch. Did I mention my family tends to have a lot of imagination?

Wow... well, these guys are only staying until Sunday and they are currently out in the back yard with Boe. They aren't used to being in a fenced yard... and when they come in, they will go in the roommate's old dog crate from when she had her greyhound. He was a big dog and these 3 are smaller and two are the third's puppies, so...

This is the first in a long time. I told the roomie to feed my dog after she gets the other in because they would probably start a fight if they went after his food.

@ElicBxn That happens in my relatives home when the cats see food being given to one cat and then the other cat wants to be fed as well.

@Deepizzaguy I free feed the cats, and the food is on a counter to keep the dog out of it.

No, I don’t have pets and don’t keep pets in my apartment. Have had dogs but they passed away.

Boe will be my last dog. I didn't want dogs, my wife did. I'm ready to be dog-less. I really don't mind dog-sitting, but dogs need to go home

A dog sitter? Maybe just a dog walker... I'm lucky that I have a yard I can have the dog in during the day. All the visiting dogs are in the yard with mine now.

@aninditasen I don't bathe my dog, well, since he was really my wife's dog, I just have him since she passed. I do have a yard so I don't walk him, he gets the yard, so, basically I feed him... Good news! The other dogs' people are on their way to get them!

@ElicBxn I may need a person to bath him and walk him too. I can only feed him.

Well, we just had a fight to the finish with two of the dogs to go out this morning. The other one didn't come in last night, despite my walking around the yard with a flashlight. But she didn't get out since she was there this morning. We think we are going to leave them outside tonight because of the PITA they were getting put out yesterday, coming in and getting into the crate last night and then getting the two in the crate out today. They have water and they won't starve without food for a couple of days, well, the one that didn't come in yesterday.

Yes it is best to have them in a crate with the cat boss around.

I had to attach my dog to the back door last night because he was going over and growling at them making them whine and bark. He didn't eat, but he often doesn't so I wasn't worried about that.
