A Martin Scorsese film entitled "Killers of the Flower Moon" is to be released to theaters on October 20, 2023. It is the adaption of the 2017 book by David Grunn by the same name. It begins with the story of Mollie Burkhart, an Osage Indian woman whose mother and three sisters were murdered under suspicious circumstances. Grunn did 5 years of research and found where the Osage people(one of the original Native American tribes) had been pushed to move onto "a pile of rocks" in Oklahoma in 1870. Oil was found on this land and they became the richest people in the country at that time with a worth of about $400 Million. Full-blooded Osage were given deeds to these lands but Congress passed a law where Osage people were found to be incompetent and had to have a white guardian to care of their finances. Also, whites would marry into the families, kill them, and be left with their money. FBI documents show that 27 Osage people were killed but it is believed that the number is more likely in the 100's. These people were either shot, stabbed, or poisoned. This is a gruesome part of our American history. What are your thoughts on this issue?

Yes just one of my atrocities that this and other countries have committed against innocents. Thanks for sharing this, I did not know of the story or the history. I might see the film maybe.

The treatment of American Native Indians is a black mark on America that can never be erased . Their land taken from them, the trail of tears and all the other horrors.

It's tragic how the government couldn't just let them have the land but had to stick their greedy hands in the mix and kill off the people.

Again the greed of humans has made it bad for the Native Americans. They have been taken advantage of for decades.

It is appalling how the original people on this land were treated.

Everyone knows that this is inhumane behavior, but the reality is so cruel

Yes, indeed. Inhumane to say the very least.
