I overspent instead of saving

We were running out of paper plates so I went to Target to see how much they cost. After using the price checker I found out that a pack of 54 Dixie plates cost $7.79. That seemed like a good price as I had bought a pack of 26 plates at the supermarket recently for $3.90. I got the plates and was happy with the spending. Then I went to a nearby supermarket for some things and while there I decided to go to the plates aisle to see how much I had saved on the 54-count pack of Dixie plates by getting them at Target. It turned out that the plates at the supermarket were on sale for $6.99 and there was also a digital $1 off coupon. The plates would cost me $5.99. That's a big difference in price. Instead of saving money I actually overspent money. Big bummer! Had I known the supermarket had a sale on plates I'd have gotten them there. I hate it when I buy something at a store and then see that same item cheaper elsewhere.

Target in general tends to be on the pricy side. That's why George and I only go once a year. With a gift card.

@lovebuglena Well, Target does tend to focus on non-food items. Their grocery section is smalll compared to other stores.

Walmart often is cheaper, but the selection is not always as good.

Guess it depends on what products you are getting. Soap I use is cheaper there than at the supermarket.

Target is pricier than Walmart, but Target has more quality items. We don’t have a Winn Dixie here though. I would have assumed Target would have had cheaper paper plates than Winn Dixie too.

@lovebuglena I am so messed up today! I misread that, and thought Winn Dixie is where you got the Dixie plates. Winn Dixie is a chain of grocery stores I don't have near me, and you don't have near you.

@AmbiePam Oh. I never heard of it before. It's an interesting name though. I wonder if any girls have a name like that.

When I buy something I have learned not to check the cost elsewhere afterwards. It is ALWAYS cheaper.

Oh wow! I do regret checking the price of the plates at the supermarket. Sometimes though we don’t go to check prices but happen to notice the item.

Go to Grocery Outlet. If you’re lucky, you might find the right items for less than Target.

I have not heard of this place. Not sure if we have it here in NYC.

@lovebuglena I am not positive of the distribution, but is a popular discount store, with lots of close out stuff and overstocks. Recently I got a carton of Sproud, a Swedish brand of pea milk, for 47 cents, and I have gotten Kikkoman soymilk for 50 cents or a dollar.

@RebeccasFarm guess they can’t put all on sale items into the circular.

And I checked the supermarket circular (we get weekly) and the plates weren’t even in it. I wouldn’t have known they are on sale.

Target I think it pretty pricey. Not like Walmart. Too bad you overspent. I think that's a lot for paper plates anyway! Have a good weekend.

No Walmart here unfortunately. Target prices on some things are cheaper than in other places. Guess it depends on what items you get.

Things like that happen all the time, But at least you got the plates, I guess the best way to avoid this happening is to check online first and then go and purchase,

We get weekly circulars for that supermarket. Those plates were not in it. I wouldn’t have known they were on sale. Maybe checking online is the best idea.
