Movie: News of the World
News of the World was released in 2020 starring Tom Hanks and Helena Zengel. The film takes place in 1870 following a former Confederate officer who reads the news from town to town. In his travels he come across a young white girl who was taken in by Kiowa Indians and is being transferred to her only living relatives. Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Tom Hanks) finds Johanna Leonberger (Helena Zengel) and it told by passing by soldiers to take here to the next town.
The story continues with how Kidd travels trying to bring the girl to her only relatives.
The story is touching, and worth watching in my opinion. At the 93rd Academy Awards, the film received nominations for Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Sound.
Of course, Tom Hanks is good in this movie as he is in everything, I have seen him in. I had never heard of Helena Zengel before, so I had to look her up and I found out why I had never heard of her before. She was born in Germany, and this was her first international film. At the release date of this movie, she was only 12 years old. I thought she did a good job acting in this film and I guess I was not the only one who thought that. Zengel received nominations for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The film is rated PG-13 due to violence, disturbing images, thematic material, and some language. Personally, I did not find it bad at all. The violence is no worse than any other western type of movie I have ever seen. The only disturbing image I remember seeing is when they show slaughtered buffalo, but the scene is maybe a minute long.
If you have the time and ability, I suggest this movie as something to take a look at.
