What Does My Dream Mean?

I dreamed that a friend lost a fancy brush/comb combination that she kept in her purse. She lost it and I found it. I lied when she asked if I saw it.
I kept it and even "helped" her look for it.
I would never do that in the real world. It is disturbing. I can't stop thinking about it. What do you think it means?
Do you ever have dreams that upset you? Do you want to share one? Why do we dream and why can't we control our behavior in the dream?

My that is unusual alright. I do not know what to make of it..let me look in my trusty Irish dream book.
It says..some sort of guilt or remorse playing out in your dream.

@RebeccasFarm
Then I was pretty much close in my guess about Guilt.

@akalinus Yes the total opposite of you..maybe it is guilt or remorse about another topic though that is way in the past..not stealing but maybe remorse about something.

Dreams are a healthy to work through thoughts and feelings you can't handle/face in the real world. You may have had thoughts that were negative to this person, that you can't bring yourself out. Feelings you're hiding, even for yourself and they come out in your dreams.

Maybe you are envious of her on some level...and that was how it manifested...who knows with crazy dreams? I had a dream about Prolific that I looked at it and saw 6 new messages. Those generally, but not always, mean some kind of problem. Fortunately, when I looked this AM there were no new messages!

I can just guess what the dream means.
Yet I guess it could be an indication to an old guilt that you had in a relationship.
Perhaps the dream indicates that you can still mend that relationship.
It could also be a warning to you not to take things in a relationship for granted.
Dreams are in the realm of sub conscious, something beyond the realm of everyday consciousness that we have.
That could be perhaps why we cannot "control" our dreams.
And well, a big disclaimer: I am not the God nor do I claim so.

Well it is fine to just stick to the dreams we see!
If I get inspired in some ways in the future, then I might go for such dreams and their analysis.

I'm always amazed at the weird scenarios your brain cooks up in dreams. I have some really weird ones. I dream that I'm going to get fired. It's so upsetting; but the company that is in my dreams is the one that I worked for for 15 years with no problems. I lost my job when they went bankrupt. Have a good day.

@LindaOHio What do you plan to do now that you are retired?

@akalinus Both. When the company went bankrupt, I lost my job at the ripe age of 62. I had planned on retiring from that company. So I had to start looking for a job; BUT I applied for disability; and after 6 months it was approved. So I was able to retire; but I couldn't get around. A bittersweet retirement.

I don’t know exactly what it means, and it may just be random snapshots of your life coming together as a weird dream. I dreamed I did something once I would never do. I woke up the next morning puzzled, but grateful that in real life I really would have been appalled. Maybe your mind tests your own reactions to random scenarios.
