Almost Famous was released in 2000 and is rated R for Language, Drug and Alcohol use and brief nudity. It is based on the true story of Cameron Crowe, who wrote and directed the film. The admittedly by Cameron the film is not entirely true to life, several of the characters are based on real people. William Miller (Patrick Fugit) is the main character, the teen journalist who goes on the road with a fictional band, Stillwater. William is based on Cameron who went on a three-week tour with the Allman Brothers at the age of 16. Lester Bangs (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) was a real person who was the first to hire Cameron. Penny Lane (Kate Hudson) was based on Pennie Ann Trumbull (aka Pennie Lane) who was a groupie in the 1970’s. Like in the move Penny and William (Cameron) become friends though we don’t know if that friendship ever became more. Cameron says that almost everyone in the film is based on someone or on multiple people he had met during that time. If you’re into rock ’n roll music or maybe even just music in general, this might be a show that you would enjoy. I know growing up listening to all these bands and still liking this music today I enjoyed the film. Of course, the music is great in it. The film runs about 2 hours and 2 minutes and I think it is well worth the time.
