Short story: Dreams, dreaming of shoes

John had a dream the other night that he was at his old dead mother's house again, and he was looking for some black nugget shoe polish to clean his work shoes, before he went off to work, on that particular day.
John looked in the old wooden box, which contained the brushes, and polishing rags, as well as the various nuggets, for cleaning shoes.
The only coloured nugget that was there was a brown one.
John thought to himself:
"Well, if I use this colour on my black shoes, at least they will look clean and polished, and people will think that the shoes were brown shoes."
John used the brown coloured nugget on his black shoes, but, which made the shoes look worse, so he then wore another pair of older black shoes, not cleaned yet either.
As he had no choice now, as he was wasting time, and the time was past now, when he should have already left to go to work.
John's Mum was in the laundry washing the clothes.
Then, John bent down to his shoes to tie up the laces.
But, there were no shoelaces in these shoes, and so he looked around the house for some of those spare shoelaces then too.
John was delayed again in his leaving to begin the commute to his workplace.
Finding no spare shoelaces around the house, John eventually had to remove some laces from his jogging shoes, and use them in his work shoes, instead.
At least, he had found a solution of sorts, to his problems.
This dream was trying to tell John that he was uncomfortable on his journey of life, as he could not find appropriate shoes to wear on that journey.
John, like all of us too, must make his own footprints, and not follow in anyone else's footsteps, in his life.
John was not very happy in his current job, and this was indicated in his dream by the missing shoelaces in his dream. He was just marking time in this job, and he had no real interest in it. Some element of attraction was missing for him in this job
John, however, is not comfortable about finding a new job either, and so he prefers to mark time in this current job, for now.
John's problem in finding the right shoe polish showed him that he wants to give the impression that he is playing the part at work, but the truth in fact is that he is only pretending to give it his best shot, and he never fully pulls his weight at work, slacking off, whenever he can do so.
Another interesting fact in John's dream was that his mother was washing the clothes in the laundry of the house, even as John was looking for the shoe polish there too.
This shows John that he must change his ways at work, and wash himself clean of his bad work ethics.
Each dream, set in a familiar place, shows you that you are familiar with your life way too much, and need to widen the scope of your living to embrace new outlooks, and ways of behaving rather than your reverting back to the status quo, all of the time too.

John needed to add some polish, and sparkle, to his life. Right now, he was pretty bored with it all.

For me, it is more of finding solutions to intractable problems during my dreams.
However, that has been few and far between as I like to sleep off my problems when I hit the bed.
Yes, we get proddings from our dreams and we should try to draw the right lessons from them.

Well, most of us spend 6 to 8 hours in bed, and it is mostly wasted time, if we do not try to draw at least some lessons from our dreams.
We sleep away at least a third of our lives, so sleep must be more important than just our resting/refreshing our neurons, and other bodily cells.
We can have another whole new life during our sleep, if we take notice of our dreams.

@innertalks I worry sound sleep will go for a toss if I try to analyze dreams and it becomes a habit too.
Most of what I dream about has no connection to the real world here.
When I wake up from them, I am reborn here
At times, it is more of a fight for survival too even during my dreams!

@Shiva49 My dreams are usually just like my normal life.
I am visiting my parents, working in an office, or attending some type of a classroom to study something in it.
Last night, for example, I was on a work camping/bonding, team-building trip, and interacting with the camp leaders, and other participants, there.
We had been given a locker to place our things in, and the locker had both a key, and a pin number to be keyed in to open it. I wrote the pin number down in a small diary-type book. I had a writing exercise book too, for writing notes on the course.
I had inadvertently locked my diarybook into the locker, and I did not remember the pin number then, so I was going to ask a leader to open my locker for me, with his master key.
An interesting dream with some detail to it.
We should not lock ourselves away to ourselves, but live from our real self then as much as we can, is perhaps a takeaway for me from this dream.
The key to our self is often hidden/locked away within us, and we must ask the master God to release it for us, so that we can live from it in our life here now.
