Doctors Update

If you read my post "So Frustrated With My Doctor", then you'll know I changed doctors. She has been absolutely fabulous. My skin condition I've had since July has pretty much cleared up. I can get in to see her within a day or two and she is only a ten minute drive away (rather than an hour). I did do the hour drive to see a dermatologist my former doctor recommended to me. He would only look at one issue per visit. He looked at my mole/cancer lesion and told me it was neither. It's a wart. They couldn't remove it then; I would have to come back. And it's not covered by government medical plan. If it's just a wart, to heck with it, and to him. Seemed like he would be more interested in giving me botox according to the questionnaire I had to fill out and the spa like atmosphere. My younger daughter injured her knee in the first five minutes of the first game of the soccer season (that would be in the spring). She has been trying to get our old doctor to help her without success. She called my new doctor and is now her patient. Within a week my daughter had an appointment for an MRI and two days later the results. Unfortunately she may need surgery. Her knee, though healing, has more issues than she imagined. Our new doctor has listed her as a "functioning athlete". She is playing ice hockey but said to me that if soccer season were starting she would not play. The moves are different and she can't do it. She would probably damage her knee some more. I hope she doesn't have to get surgery. Now if I can just get my older daughter in to see this doctor.... It is so nice to find a doctor who is empathetic, friendly and has a great attitude. And she is young so won't be retiring anytime soon leaving us in the lurch again.

That is so great to hear. Everyone deserves to have a caring doctor.

A doctor who is smiling (even behind that medical mask) and asks about my condition from a previous visit when I am not there for that is how doctor's should be. With my previous doctor I felt like a number. He couldn't put talking to me on the phone to a face that was in his office a month before. I am seriously, asking me if I had diabetes or take a cholesterol pill is something HE should KNOW.

I remember when doctors would do minor surgeries such as mole, wart or cyst removal in their office. OHIP has really gone down the tubes, another thing to thank Frod (sic) for.

My original doctor whom I had for 30 years if not more, removed a mole in her office and sent it for testing. The last time I saw a dermatologist about a "mole", he removed it right then and there, no consult. I have since been told that since I have seen him in the past I could see him again. I thought rules for referrals expired after a year.

@BarBaraPrz I know because the other dermatologist I went to a few years ago removed it at no charge. But this place I went to seemed more like a spa where the questionnaire I filled out asked me whether I was worried about crows feet, laugh lines, etc. All about the botox.

@patgalca I don't know about that, just that both doctors get to bill OHIP (or so I've heard).

Yes, she recognized my daughter for the athlete that she is and put her up at the top of the priority list.

I am too. It's been so hard since my doctor of 30+ years retired, even worse since COVID.

Your old doctor sounds very mercenary. Our first 'new' doctor when we moved house would send you out the door after ten minutes so we found another, and much better one thankfully.

The first time I saw this "new" doctor after my regular of 30+ years retired, also rushed me out the door. I went to see the nurses after. I was in tears. They said they had a lot of complaints about that. When I had my physical in June he said, "We have to get through this in 30 minutes". He seemed to be rushing, but then he leaned back in his chair, crossed his arms, in no rush, and asked me how my mental health was and talked to me about that for probably 20 minutes. I think he's in the wrong area of medicine.

@patgalca Vince's first doctor, when Vin said he wouldn't be going back and why, asked how his old doctor could spend so much time on each patient. I think nowadays more practices are run by a company who employ the doctors and expect a high turnover of patients.
