Woke Infested

You have probably seen the word 'woke' used throughout social media nowadays. It seems to have started with DeSantos and his idiocy over the last few years. Well if some of his bigotry wasn't just too much to bear now the "woke-infested" American Ornithological Society is planning to change bird's names and feels there is power in a name.
The AOS president, Colleen Handel, says "We need a much more inclusive and engaging scientific process that focuses attention on the unique features and beauty of all birds themselves. Everyone who loves and cares about birds should be able to enjoy and study them freely--and birds need our help now more than ever."
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary the word 'woke' is defined as "aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues [especially issues of racial and social justice].
I personally think this AOS should be fighting for habitat and food issues not worrying about a bird's name that has been in existence for decades. I think many of the names given to birds have to do with the bird's personality or attributes and it would be a real shame to change them. The one they give as an example is the Wilson's Warbler. What in the world is the problem with that name?

It seems rather silly to me to use all that time for names sake.

I wrote about this a couple of days ago. They want to change the names to be more politically correct; such as, the Eskimo curlew and Inca dove. I personally don't see anything wrong with those names; but apparently people are getting much too sensitive these days. They changed our Cleveland Indians to the Cleveland Guardians. Who chose that stupid name; and why didn't they ask the residents of Cleveland what they thought? It's so annoying. By the way, they wanted to change the name of the Audobon Society because Audobon's family once owned slaves. They decided not to change it at this time. Hope you have a good day.

Sensitive is putting it lightly. It certainly is annoying. I am a traditionalist and enjoy and respect names that have been around for decades. MTG was talking about the Jefferson Memorial a while back too. Putting it up to be demolished like Lee's statue was. What a freak she is.

This isn't a new thing, they've changed the names of birds for years for similar reasons. I think because it's election season, some public figures are trying to make a bigger deal out of it.

Not a new thing but still needs to have more important aspects looked at.

@celticeagle Perhaps. I don't think deciding to rename the birds means that they aren't looking into the other aspects. They can do both at the same time.
