Day 119
1 Corinthians 4:7 For who makes you different from another? What do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
8 You are already full! You are already rich! You have reigned as kings without us—and indeed I could wish you did reign, that we also might reign with you!
9 For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.
10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!
11 To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless.
12 And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; 13 being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.
14 I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you.
15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus, I have begotten you through the gospel.
16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.
How do you react when people treat you as nothing? Do you walk away or stand your ground? Do you put up a fight or do you use opposite psychology with them?
Paul told the Corinthian church they were no different from each other. They had everything through Christ Jesus. He told them that no matter how he and the apostles were treated, they blessed their persecutors. They did not treat them as they treated him and the other apostles. He urged them to imitate him.
Many Christians puff themselves up and boast about their position in Christ. They live as kings among men. Yet in so doing, they are nothing without Christ Jesus.
When you accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord, He set you apart as holy to Him. Jesus gave you everything you need to do His work. It’s not your work. He fills you and makes you rich through the gospel. Therefore, when Satan comes against you, do not act like the world—boastful and proud. Bless those who revile and persecute you. Let him know you belong to Christ Jesus.
Let’s pray: Father, You give me everything I need to do Your work. Help me not to boast about what I have but let me honor You and boast about You. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

A great reminder for us to be humble servants of Christ, and not to be boastful or judgmental or "holier than thou." No matter what our circumstances, we are to live our lives to glorify God in everything we do, serving humbly and with joy and love.

Yes, many of us want a reward for what we do, and want accolades from others when we do things too.
James, chapter 4, verses 16-17.
"As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them."
We need to do what we need to do for God, but without ever boasting about what we do, and have done.
