Short story: A rock’s tale

A rock can be useful to us

The old man had an old rickety table, but for a chair, he was using a rock. He ate all of his meals sitting on the rock at this table. The old man knew that he was dying, and that he had not much longer to live. He sat down on his rock, and enjoyed a last meal. Then, he scratched a message into his rock for those who might come and find him at some time later. He scratched to the rock: “You have supported me for most of my life, but you cannot support me where I go now.” Then, he looked at the rock, and he heard a reply. “Well, the part of me just scratched away will go with you, and is missing from me, and has been scratched onto your heart, by me, so I will go with you in that way.” The man then died, and sure enough, his heart in the next life, kept his last message alive, as he knew now that God was his rock, and that God had supported him throughout his just finished life too, and God had etched his own message onto his heart too, to be read now again in this afterlife too, by both God, and the man, to see which place he will be assigned to now. Had he ignored God's message in his heart, or had he acknowledged and followed it wisely enough? He was about to find this out now, when he met up with God. Meanwhile, the rock stayed behind, but it was eventually moved outside of the house, and it was then used by a neighbour’s daughter, for a seat for herself too. These two people had used the rock, but it is certain that before them, many others might have used it too. The rock had many a tale to tell then to all those who could hear it speaking to them. Very nice story. Very good picture. pixabay.com is where I get some of my pictures from to do my art.

Thanks. Yes, I mostly use pixabay.com, as it is easy to use, and to search for relevant pictures too.

@innertalks Yes, I love it. I got the picture I used as a reference photo for my fox painting from there, and all my other paintings.

@sharonelton I am not into painting, but I can see that getting pictures from there would be helpful, as it is hard to go out ourselves, to get relevant pictures, especially of a fox, like that.

When you build your life on the Rock, Jesus Christ, you will never have anything to fear when you die.

@just4him Yes, that is a great parable, about how we live our life, either foolishly, or wisely, with either good, or bad, foundations.

Yes, we need firm foundations for our life to be built on, and ignoring God, and Jesus Christ, makes the foundations of our lives shaky, and we cannot build a right life, with shaky foundations, as we might fall into the traps of sin, far more readily then too.
