Question: When you read or hear poor grammar, how do you typically respond?

I am not surprised that some people feel physical stress from hearing bad grammar. These people are portraying themselves as perfectionists. Since I have been a virtual ESL teacher for more than a decade now, I do not make myself stressed out by hearing or reading poor grammar. For the reason that I only correct their grammar errors. It is up to the online students to accept them or not. Thus, I am allowed to be a fault-finder. Are you a fault-finder? Image Credit: dragonflytraining.files.wordpress.com

I am not a perfectionist. I am annoyed to hear bad grammar, but I try not to be too bothered by that.

I can feel it with that sense. In my family, I usually do this with my young niece. I want her to be like me in terms of constructing sentences with no grammar lapses.

@LadyDuck  Indeed. I only do it with the kids. If the adults ask for help, then I am willing to do it.

@Shavkat - There are no children in my family, I thought it was rude to make the others noticed if they made a grammar lapse. You can with kids, not with adults.

At times, I try to find out errors in Grammar in different official emails. It is now an automatic habit for me. Yet I do not stress myself. I just have a casual glance. I think if one gets too stressed, they need a change of mindset.

Believe it or not, my former project manager was not good at grammar. At that time, no one dared to tell him about it. So, I did call his attention to improve this concern. I even volunteered to help him out, but to no avail. In respect to his discretion, I just let it go and moved on.

At myLot we cannot correct but I sometimes reconstruct what is written in my response or comment hoping the user will notice it.

I also do the same thing. I am rephrasing the sentences in my own words.

You are a teacher, it probably should stress you out more. I get your livelihood depends on it. I try to tell people mylot is for fun, do not take it so serious Students on the other hand should be trying their hardest. If they are, as a teacher, that is all you can ask. If I was a teacher I would be looking for ways that would make it easier for them to understand. People also have many issues with writing because writing is hard, especially in English. Its really hard to comprehend even as an adult. A verb, pronoun, adjective, now say all that proper in a sentence. It will drive you mad when you just trying to have a little fun. I am also the worse person to ask, because dyslexic and the more people make things complicated for no reason the less I care.

At first, I was so stressed out dealing with young learners. In the long run, I tried my best to deal with their needs. It varies from one student to another. I am claiming that it is easy now because I can handle them confidently. For dyslexic individuals, it will surely be a big challenge. It is a matter of being patient enough to handle them with care. First things first, it is not their fault to be in this condition.

I used to instruct people in English back in Latvia. Now I occasionally find some grammar mistakes online and that kind of makes me think that whoever published the articles should have done a better job in proofreading,

I had also seen some here and there. But then, it is better to keep silent. I am sure they can enhance their grammar by making complete sentences.

I agree with you. That's the good thing here. They do not require writers.
