Short story: Fighting to try to win, only ever loses in the end. Love never needs to fight. Only fear fights back

The Zen master, Herlick Verboski, was also a martial artist in the style of Kung Fu, named Crabfu, based on the sideways movements of a crab.
It involved a lot of ground fighting, as they believed that keeping low allowed them to defend best.
The Zen master had powerful hands, arms, and legs, and he would apply a crab hold on someone to restrain them, trapping them in a vice-like scissor grip, with his legs, as well as applying a choke hold, at the same time, from the rear.
Many times, in those days, he was called to defend his monastery from marauding thugs, who wanted to loot them of their possessions, which included a golden Buddha statue, worth a lot of money.
The master bit off more than he could chew one day though, as the old saying goes, if you take on a sword, it will kill you in the end.
And so, a group of thugs, keen to loot the Monastery of its golden Buddha, never even bothered engaging the master in a fight; they simply shot him in the back, when he was strolling in the Monastery grounds, one day, with a bow, and an arrow; then they stole their booty, and got away with it too.
We should be careful when we neglect the way of love to go the way of fear instead. Fear needs to defend itself, whereas love never does.

Never fear love, but allow love to be itself within you.

Yes, as the Bible reminds us, there is no fear in perfect love.
"There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love."
1 John, chapter 4, verse 18.
This is one of my favourite verses from the Bible.

Yes, and cowards always play by their own rules too, to give them unfair advantages, as well.
The master, by fighting off so many groups of thugs before had become a target for many other groups of thugs too. And so, they got bragging rights amongst their own for what they did too.
Sometimes, it is better not to be so aggressive in defence, but more allowing of what sometimes happens.
He should have given the golden Buddha to a museum, instead of holding onto it himself, in his monastery.
Now, it cost him his life, and the golden Buddha, was now gone too.

Yes, fear causes us much angst, and many problems in our lives, whereas real love never creates any problems in our life, at all

The saying “live by the sword, die by the sword”, comes to mind.
We have been doing that from time immemorial with weapons of mass destruction increasing in its potency.
And catching the enemy by surprise is taken as a badge of honor.
I recall the Bard "Heavy is The Head That Wears The Crown".
The Zen master came short as the thugs had no scruples.
When love is more of an afterthought, we will never know peace.

Yes, I was thinking of that sword saying too.
Weapons are never as powerful as love.
Weapons, on their own, can never bring peace, but forever just lead to arms races, where more and more weapons are invented and stockpiled, and everybody is rattled by the sabres in the cupboard, and their possibility of coming out, and wreaking havoc amongst us all.

@Shiva49 Yes, the right priorities are often waylaid, and misplaced, in the helter-skelter of everyone racing to be top dog, and to flex their muscles at the top, rather than reaching down, and helping others, up to the top, too.

@innertalks We forget history repeats.
Knockout blows are needed to make us realize our folly.
United we stand, divided we fall and we need the bonding of love to get our priorities right.
