Disclaimer: A purely intuitive self study thoughts shared here.
ODI Cricket World Cups:
Australia vs India Final 2003 World Cup:
Tipped to be a close match, Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting and Damien Martyn played attacking cricket to take Aussies to 359 runs and India lose by 125 runs.
Australia vs India Semi Final World Cup 2015:
India's unbeaten run comes to an end.
Courtesy: Steve Smith 100 -, Aaron Finch - 81 and bowlers like Starc, Faulkner and Mitchell Johnson.
India lose by 95 runs!
Cut to 2023: After winning 10 on 10, with awesome batters and superb bowlers, India looked favorites against an Aussie side that peaked after losing 2 matches initially but winning 8 in a row!
Yet Pat Cummins and his bowlers and Travis Head ensured that India lost by 6 wickets.
Apart from that, India lost to Aussies team led by Steve Waugh by a good margin of 77 runs in the 1999 World Cup.
2011: India beat Australia in the Quarter Finals and finally wins the World Cup.
Somewhere by going through all of this, I wonder if in such matches, Aussies are more determined?
Does India feels more pressure?
Why Australia looks to perform even better?
Why some of the key batsmen of India flounder?
Why Aussies become more difficult to get out by the Indian bowlers?
All of this gives me a suspicion if Aussies are better at mind games also?
Why India fails against Aussies in WC Knockouts, while elsewhere, often India wins in a good way?
Lots of questions but well, no answer!
Any thoughts?

A disappointment day..but now we move on. Sportsman spirit is the most important thing..be it the winning side or the ones who lost.
All these questions do come in our mind. We predict things based on prior data and statistics available. A home ground, great form, trend in the last few world Cup where host country won...but then there comes a time when the predictions don't work.
Cricket like any other sports is unpredictable. And luck factor and mindset can not be totally ignored.

Yes you are right. Yet Aussies tend to play mind ganes much more than the other teams.
Earlier players like McGrath used to slang as well but that has reduced.
Yet interestingly, players like David Warner and Glenn Maxwell are also there who look they play in a decent way.
Somehow I also think that a 1 lakh plus crowd probably put more pressure on India, although I know that even with a below par score, India did try hard.

Yes but may be there is also the factor as to who plays better under the pressure.
India won two Test Match series against Australia in Australia twice - 2018-19 and 2020-21.
Yet in the World Cup Knockouts, the story becomes totally different.

Yes perhaps mental conditioning plus difference of the public expectations that is the case for India vs Australia.
That could be a big factor.

Well, after 3 days, gradually I am getting back to the realisation that whether it is a big game or not, it is finally a game.
One has to come to terms with reality.
