Everything looks like a turkey sandwich! I hope you’re having a great holiday weekend. I’ve managed to avoid crazy things. In fact, the worst traffic I’ve encountered this weekend was for the football game. Here’s another “gonna” song for your Saturday dining and dancing pleasure. And Linda? NO WAY!!!!!! #6: Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad - Tammy Wynette Yes, amid all this 60s country music (there’s another one tomorrow [sorry Linda]) we’re hitting the heavyweights. I have to say something about these country songwriters: they sure understood the women’s perspective. I’ve mentioned that controversial (for the time) song “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels.” Then there’s this song. And one of my favorites, Wanda Jackson’s “The Box It Came In.” All written by men. Yes, this was written by Billy Sherrill, the producer, and Glenn Sutton, a songwriter and, at the time, Lynn Anderson’s husband. And man, does it hit the “pissed-off woman” feeling on the head! Simple plot: wife is tired of hubby hanging out in bars with those kind of women, so she says “if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em” and decides “I’ll even learn to like the taste of whiskey.” A great country classic tune.
