OK Kids, do you know what a beaver moon is?

I just found out this morning that November's moon is called a beaver moon because historically it was when beavers retreated to their lodges to hibernate for the winter. It was also when trappers did their fur trading. Anyway, a bit of trivia for this morning.

The moon was beautiful yesterday evening and early this morning. Many of the full moon nicknames came to us from Native American culture. The December full moon will be the "cold moon".

@snowy22315 Not surprising that the February moon is called "Snow Moon", it's the coldest month and we never miss to have snow.

@Juliaacv Our weatherman likes to discuss weather terms even colloquial ones like a blackberry winter.

@snowy22315 That is okay, I am only a couple of days ahead of you on this one. They discussed it on the local news when they were doing the weather report.

It is hard for me to see the moon most of the time in here I have to go outside(as do most), which I don't usually do when it is dark In certain positions I can see it in here though..

Never knew that! Now that beavers are being reintroduced into the UK, I guess we can have a beaver moon as well!

I have seen this beautiful moon sometimes from my bedroom window. It reminds us of the last warmth of sunset.

It is hard to for me to see the moon here unless it is in certain positions. The trees block it, but I could tell it was bright by the illumination it provided in the yard.

Thanks, apt to be kind of a boring day as I am stuck inside..but we will do some decorating perhaps. I might even put the tree up.

Interesting I bet my husband knows that but I’ve never heard of it. He trapped beavers for many years.

Moon is kinda amazing for two days upon my observation or quite a full moon date which I am supposed to be looking at the calendar.

In Northern Europe it was known as Blood Moon because it was when they slaughtered the livestock to eat through the winter. I wonder what we would call it if we were naming it now?

I don't know..to me it looks like what was traditionally called a harvest moon, maybe a bit less orange.

I was unfamiliar with the term too, but that is what November's moon is called apparently. To me it looks a bit more like a harvest moon, but no doubt all the harvesting was done about a month ago.
