Get your flu shot!

I had written that our daughter Tammy, her husband Jay, and their 14 year old Landon went on their annual Thanksgiving cruise last week. They got back yesterday and what a horrible experience they had. Jay and Landon had the worst case of flu I've ever heard of. Their Covid tests were negative and the doctor on board started them on Tamiflu. Honestly, Tammy wondered at one point if they might end up being air lifted. She stayed well enough to get them food (if they could even keep anything down) and drinks. She said one time Landon was barely conscious. Jay said he's never been that sick and in that much pain in his life. They're doing right much better...Tammy's just had a sore throat and total exhaustion. We were so worried about them. Tammy was able to FB message us and we prayed the whole time they were gone. Tammy said she can't even stand the thought of another cruise. And this is the woman who's been on numerous cruises and has even talked about wanting to live on one. I think she's changed her mind. I'm so thankful they're getting better. This was certainly a Thanksgiving they'll never forget.

We know a lady who got ecoli while on a cruise. Probably her immune system wasn't very healthy to begin with..but she kept having diarrhea and losing weight She had to take some pill that cost 3,000 dollars per pill to recover..Can you imagine? I don't know how long she had to take them

@1creekgirl Yes, but now she has other problems. She reminds me a bit of you..can't catch a break. I think the current problem she has is her BP.

Hubby wants us all to go on a cruise, but getting seriously ill is one of the things I'm afraid of regarding cruises. Sorry they got terribly sick on their trip - what a way to spend their vacation time. I hope they all get completely better soon!

That was a rough way to spend their week away. I hope that they can recouperate and be well enough in a month to enjoy Christmas.

That's horrible. I am so sorry. The Health Department will come out and give you flu shots at home. Maybe that's what we'll do. We still need our 2nd COVID boosters; and hubs should get an RSV shot.

@1creekgirl I know. I had some complications when I was 17 years old. The flu almost killed me because I had pneumonia. It didn't disappear with anything.

I am glad they are getting better. I read online so many times of hundred of people sick during cruises. A ship and an airplane are the most dangerous places to get germs and virus, but at least you do not stay days on a plane, avoiding food and wearing a mask is enough to stay safe. On a ship, also food may be contaminated if one of the server in the kitchen is severely sick, that is often the case.

@1creekgirl They should pay better those who are in the kitchen, and also those who clean the common area.

I am glad that they survived all of that it sounds awful, For years and even as far back as in Latvia I have never gotten a flu shot and I don't even remember when I last had the flu.

Well that's not the way to spend time on a cruise. I won't be getting mine though. Only have once. And only got the flu once.
