Pastor Douglas Bootstrap, was giving his weekly homily, with the subject matter of how we can best connect to the World, in our lives.
Here is what he said:
“One way that we connect to the world is through our possessions, our materialism, our connection, to the material world.”
“We need to be careful that we do not over-connect ourselves only to materialism, at the expense of our greater connection to the spiritual world, or to God, or to our real God-given purpose, and mission, for this life.”
“We must never forget that it is God, and his divinity, that are responsible for the material world, and God underpins the world to himself, at all times. In other words, underneath every part of the World is God.”
“The world should be utilised in the fulfilling of our divine mission, by us, as it is in this world that we are being called to raise our spiritual wisdom, and divine consciousness, to fully fulfil our mission, and purpose for our being there, put there by God.”
“We are to bear fruit for God, and for our fellow man too, by making full use of our talents, and spiritual gifts, as well as our physical gifts too, in our lives.”
“We are all indebted to God, and we should never forget this, and continually thank him for this opportunity of live here, on this Earth.”
“We should not pray to God, because we think that we are worthy of receiving his blessings. We should pray to God, and ask him to assist us in our lives from his position of loving kindness, towards all parts of his creation. We should remain humble in our relationship with God too.”
“We should be sincere, faithful, and trusting, towards God, and place our trust and faith in God, rather than solely direct these strengths towards the material world instead.”
“Living God’s plan for our lives should become a natural thing for us to do, and so we will relate to the world, through our fulfilling of God’s plan, and purpose, for our life too.”

Yes, we connect to the world through our possessions and worldly wealth. When we do, we open ourselves up to Satan, who focuses on worldly wealth to take us away from God and His purpose for our lives.
Instead, our connection shouldn't be with the world but with Jesus, God's Son, through Bible study and prayer. When we do, we won't want a connection to the world. The song says: the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. That's from the song: Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.

@innertalks I'm glad you like the song. I like much of today's Contemporary Christian music.

Yes, as Jesus Christ said, he was not of this world, we should take the same view, and not over-connect ourselves to the things, and the ways, of the World.
That old song is a wonderful song, with meaningful words. I prefer the old hymns to the music of today.

@just4him I have noticed that some contemporary music uses the old tunes too, just with different words to the music.

Yes, l agree.
Giving and sharing helps us to connect to others.
We feel connected to the world more when we connect to others like that too.

The physical world can enchant us, but we should also not forget the source behind it all, including us.
We should eschew the entitlement mentality and take our lives as a blessing.
A grateful approach will keep us well-grounded.
To forget the larger picture is revolting to our conscience.
There should be a sense of justice in the way we go about our lives.
It should become a habit rather than an afterthought.

Yes, to live our lives from the bottom of only just our own rabbit hole, misses our seeing most of what the world is all really about, We need to come out and to connect to the real world, to live a full life in it, while also connecting to a higher world, at the same time.

@Shiva49 Yes, what God told us once in the Bile, has gone to our heads.
He said that man is in charge of all the other creatures, but he did add that man should name each one too, implying that he should be friendly with them, and not exploit them to the hilt, as he often does today.

@innertalks Compared to other species, we think we are right up there.
That behooves us to be grateful and at the same time do justice to our talents and awareness.
