What I have noticed is that the present generation is not inclined to entertain guests in their homes and so passing on the cutlery, crockery and crystalware will only be kept in their showcases as a memory rather than put to use
The sad part is even we do not entertain much these days and so our cupboards are loaded too.
The decision taken is just to leave them there and whoever takes over will have the hard task of how to dispose of them.

@allknowing Yes I have a nice set of dishes that is used every day. Nothing that is just used for special occasions.

Sorry. They are not on display They have been dumped in a cupboard waiting to find a way to get rid of them.

Housing is very expensive here. As most people live in small apartments, we seldom entertain guests in our homes.

Even if the houses are big youngsters will not entertain anyone at home. (lol)

Probably because we never had children, our house used to be the place for very large family gatherings, so the two of us had massive quantities of flatware, crystal and porcelain. We started travelling a few years ago and disposed of all of those things. Nobody in the family wanted any of it, even the younger ones have no intention of hosting any events at home. We still have good memories of entertaining though, our families just want to eat out now.
