Roaming Stray Animals

Georgia

A large number of people in Georgia complain about the stray dogs - they are everywhere and anywhere, day and night. It does not really worry us as most of these dogs are really well behaved, although we have felt threatened on a few occasions. Cats we don't normally see as they are mostly feral and tend to avoid human contact. I've seen all manner of strays in my life - donkeys, cats, dogs, cattle, horses and even pigs (yes people do have all those animals as pets and sometimes they get loose in suburbia). But the mangy dog seems to be the one that is most prevalent, no matter where we travel. And these animals always seem to have a sad look about them. There are some countries with pounds and an SPCA where strays are removed to and cared for, but sometimes this is discontinued, and then the animals roam free. I've only problem with stray dogs and cats and that is rabies (not a thing in the USA and some developed countries, but elsewhere it is a real life threatening problem, and we've often been advised to walk with sticks to beat strays off) I sometimes think we as people don't get it - give any animal sufficient food, water and shelter and it will breed unless you make a plan beforehand. Strays are probably a sad indictment of the level of care we show our pets, including their basic need to breed. Hopefully people provide shelter and care for their animals where you live.

Oh people here, let me tell you, they will care for animals first..not people. They love animals more than people. Quite frankly, I find this disgusting.

In my city, it is not allowed to have stray dogs. There is a city ordinance about it. Although it does not apply to some places in my country.
