Sharing a view from long ago (maybe)

Georgia

Maybe Jason and the Argonauts on the good ship Argo had this view of the Eastern-most stop of their quest so many centuries ago. Here we are, yesterday afternoon, and crossing the Rioni river, getting a good view of upstream to Kutaisi (photo on the left) and look back downstream towards Poti (photo on the right), probably the same view as Jason would have had from the deck of the Argo. The Rioni River flows into the Black Sea at Poti. Poti is where Jason and the Argonauts reportedly entered the river to sail upstream on their way to the capital city of Colchis (as Kutaisi was known at the time) on his quest to steal the Golden Fleece from Aeetes, the king of Colchis. This was also the Eastern-most stop in the outward journey. Of course over time, many changes have occurred in the flow of the river. This might not even be the riverbanks as they once were. And it might just be a story hallucinated by Apollonius of Rhodes. I don't know. But somehow the romantic in me can almost hear the creak of the Argo's planks sailing upriver as I get to share a view from a very very long time ago.

Georgia the country , yes. I was totally ignorant until I got here and the history of the place was just so overwhelming I had to learn quickly. I mean really, this city has been continuously inhabited for like 3600 years

@RebeccasFarm I don't mind at all. We originated from South Africa/Namibia. Still have family there, but I doubt we'll go back. We've got a year visa here and will probably renew it. While the language is a challenge, there is much that is different and better

I see on ioverlander only wild camping in that area from some years ago and nothing on GaiaGPS. I've also been stopped by the police on occasion on the other side of the forest as well, but I think that is because of the university on that side. Few cows and one or two pigs roaming about, but other than that I wouldn't see a reason not to. Very safe area and town is still close by.
