An Officer of the United States

In over one dozen states the legal challenges aiming at preventing former President Trump from being on the 2024 ballots are being continually dismissed. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, it states that any "officer" of these states should not be allowed to run if he has violated in rebellion or insurrection against the states. The question is whether a former President would be termed as an 'officer'. I think he would. My thinking is that if we, the people voted for him as we(not I or anyone with half a brain) did other officers then he should be termed as an officer too. Why wouldn't he be?

I think he will get some heavy sanctions and have to pay a lot in restitution but that's about all I see happening to him. I hope we are wrong.
