Day 150
1 Timothy 1:5 Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith, 6 from which some, having strayed, turned aside to idle talk, 7 desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.
8 We know the law is good if one uses it lawfully, 9 knowing this: the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, the ungodly and sinners, the unholy and profane, murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, manslayers, 10 fornicators, sodomites, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine, 11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God which was committed to my trust.
Do you think about the purpose everything has, not only people? When you buy something, it’s for a specific purpose. Yet many people use items for other purposes than what they were meant to do. For example, a butter knife as a screwdriver. Yet, that was never its purpose.
Paul told Timothy the purpose of the commandment was love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith. He told Timothy many people strayed from the purpose and desired to be teachers of the law. They neither understood what they said nor the things they affirmed. Paul told Timothy the law was only good for those who used it lawfully. It wasn’t made for a righteous person but for those who sinned against the law and everything contrary to sound doctrine according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God who entrusted it to him.
Many Christians change the purpose of God’s Word, using it to condemn rather than build up the body of Christ. They don’t treat the gospel as pure and holy, given to them by God who is forever blessed. Instead, they change its meaning; reading into it what was never there. Many claim they need more than God’s Word to receive eternal life.
When God gave the law to Moses, He did so to show His people their disobedience to Him and give them the opportunity to turn from wickedness to obedience. God demonstrated His love to them in every way possible, even in discipline so they could know His heart and how much He loved them.
God still demonstrates His love to us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The law and commandment haven’t changed. It still shows everyone their sin. Yet God sent His Son, Jesus, to show us His love. God’s love is the purpose of the Law and the Commandment. It isn’t to condemn us but to move us to change from the wicked person we were to the righteous person God meant us to be when we accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord.
When you understand God’s love, you understand His purpose. When you understand His purpose then you can teach, telling others about God’s love and what He sent His Son, Jesus to do for you: provide eternal life through Jesus’ shed blood, death, and resurrection.
God told Moses that anyone who changed God’s law, He would put on them all the plagues He brought on Egypt. Jesus said the same thing to John when He gave him the revelation of the last days, the Tribulation that would come on the world after the rapture of the church.
Deuteronomy 4:2 You will not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
Deuteronomy 12:32 Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.
Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
6 Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.
Revelation 22:18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
You don’t want God’s wrath on your life. You do not want to lose your salvation by changing God’s Word to fit your lifestyle. It is you who must change so you are fit for heaven, righteous, set apart from the world as holy unto God, who is forever blessed.
Let’s pray: Father, change me Lord for Your purpose, not mine. Help me to keep Your Word and teach others to do the same. Let Your Word fill me to overflowing so that Your love shines through everything I say and do. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Yes, even today, there are many scholars who think that they know the Bible backwards, so to speak, in word, and verse, but they have little understanding of the underlying truths, and of God's love, that is behind it all too.
We should not preach the law at anyone, just for the sake of preaching it, but more give them love, and teach others from love, not only from law.

@just4him Yes, and to properly understand what we are reading in the Bible, we also need an ongoing relationship with God, and his son, through prayer too.

@innertalks Yes, we do. Without it we won't understand anything.
