Today, December 25, would have been Jimmy Buffett’s 77th birthday.
But this month is celebrating the music he gave us during his life. As you open your presents and celebrate the joy of the season, here’s a gift of music for you.
#7: If I Could Just Get It on Paper
I quote Buffett a lot. I refer to him as a “poet and philosopher,” because he really was. That’s why you find all these “deep catalog” and “non-hit” songs on this list: there was so much more to his music than cheeseburgers with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and French fried potatoes. Consider this line:
Life and ink, they run out at the same time
Or so said my old friend the squid
That’s superficially funny if you think about the aquatic thing and its ink. Thinking of “squid” as a nickname for Navy personnel, however, it becomes a lot deeper….and truer.
Buffett’s life and ink ran out at the same time, but oh, the music he left us.

Time alone seemed to work well for Faulkner:

I still prefer the “feeling” of writing something down as opposed to typing it on the computer.

I enjoy the relaxing vibe he had in his music.

Don’t you have some wrapping paper to toss in the trash?

I hope you had a blessed Christmas!

Maybe if I lived in the Keys I would become a Parrothead. Have a great day.

Nah, either you like the music or you don’t. I didn’t like Hawaiian music because I lived there.
