The parrot painting so far.

So, after I'd finished painting the boat I started painting some of the feathers on the wing of my parrot with some of the raw sienna I had on my palette because I didn't want to waste it. Then I packed up my painting stuff so that my Mum and step-dad could use the dining room table, and I went and had my dinner. After EastEnders I went and got my painting stuff out so that I could do some more to my parrot. The first thing I did was paint the background black as in the photo I'm copying from. I carefully went round the edge of the parrot with an outline of black with a small brush. Then I blocked in the big spaces with a larger brush. I then went back to the small brush to finish off awkward parts and to patch up parts that were sketchy. While I was waiting for that to dry I did the parrots front with a mid yellow colour with a bit of orange in it. I did a little bit on the parrots wing on the right that isn't outstretched with an orange kind of colour. It's actually called gamboge and it's a kind of peachy colour. I added the same colour to part of the tail underneath the branch and at the bottom of the right wing underneath the branch. Then I went on to do some painting on the outstretched wing. I added lemon yellow to some feathers of the wing, some gamboge and a little bit of yellow ochre here and there. I added some white/grey to the face and then I decided to call it a day. I'll do some more to it next week. What do you think of this work in progress so far? I hope you are all well. Have a great night.

Thank you. I'm glad you like it. Yes, t's very relaxing and stops me thinking of how trapped I feel living with my Mum and step-dad at my age!

You have progressed so much in your painting techniques. This one is very good and I imagine that it will be beautiful once finished.

@sharonelton Take your time. I know that you have to wait until the pain is dry before continuing.

@LadyDuck Well, it doesn't take acrylic paint long to dry. Oil paint takes a lot longer.

It is a lot of fun yes, apart from when you can't get something right! You should get back into it.

@sharonelton It’s interesting seeing the stages that lead up to the final product. Tonight I’ve been sorting stuff ready for moving house. I have ever so many books that I need to offload. I hate doing this - I’ll never read them again, but they have been great friends, a reassuring presence.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you feel that way. I like showing you my works in progress. Have you managed to sort everything now? I remember when we were moving house. It was very stressful. We wanted a cup of tea afterwards and realised we'd packed the kettle and didn't know which packing case it was in! I got rid of a lot of books when we were moving house too! I gave them all to the Oxfam shop. That was when everything went to the regular Oxfam shop and they didn't have an Oxfam book shop! Yes, it can be very upsetting when you need to get rid of something that you'd rather keep.

It's pretty. On Dec. 28, I was a little bit sad. My boyfriend went back home to New Jersey. He will be back down sometime soon.
