Rachel Lanham who is a resident of Jackson Michigan received her best birthday gift around December 21 at the University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor when a deceased patient donated his or her organs to be donated to a person who needed a new heart to replace Rachel's defective heart.
The doctors of the hospital used a surgery called Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) was performed the night before Rachel would reach her 48th birthday.
Rachel checked into the hospital shortly after her uncle passed away which she took the action to have a medical exam when doctors discovered that she had congenital heart disease known as Non-Compaction Cardiomyopathy.
Rachel is hopeful that with her new heart, she will be able to raise six of her eight children who are living with her for a long period of time.

Some people donate their organs to try to help others like this, and it is a good thing to do most of the time, unless one lives in a third-world country, where people are paid for their kidney, for example, to give it to someone else.
Volunteers, and donations, are continually asked for here, and I must admit I often shut myself off from the myriads of appeals. I wonder about the legitimacy of some charities, who are only in it to get the tax breaks.
Your story was a good example where donating has really benefitted immensely another life.
