I watched a film about the life of Leonard Berstein. Smoking.

The movie is very interesting. I recomend it to everyone that loves music.
But besides that, what shocked me although I was for years a heavy smoker was that he seemed to start the day smoking and ended it the same way.
I have seen many people from my generation die from lung cancer. I, myself, started to smoke very early in my life because it was "cool".
At first I did not smoke much because my allowance was meager. But when I started to date my husband who had what, for me then , was a lot of money (he was then a pro soccer player) he always brought a pack of ciggies to my home when he visited and seemed to left the rest on the living room table. It was his loss
I never kept them to return them to him. My friends were as poor (as ciggies went) and many times we bought a pack between 4 or 5 of us and they had to last until our parents gave us our allowance the next week. So I then became the rich one of my group at my BF expense.
He did not smoke much but he brought them as a gallant gesture.
Almost 40 years later, in his death bed, the only thing he asked me was to stop smoking. And I did, a few years later, when I discovered that it was either smoking or going to holidays for me. I never thought of health reasons until I had cancer and the MRI showed that I had an emphysema.
I wish you, smoking friends here, to quit as a 2024 goal. It can be done.
Ciggies are drugs. You get addicted to them. It is NOT a habit.

I smoked for several decades and my husband used to smoke a couple of ciggies a day to keep me company. I quit over 10 years ago now. If I hadn“t done it, I would be a pauper. It is a very expensive addiction.

@LindaOHio I did my math and I was spending more money on cigies than on groceries. And with that money, I could pay airfares once every year to any part of the world should I want to go there.

My daughter has tried and tried to quit. She has smoked for 40 years and it has become so much a part of her life I doubt she will ever be able to quit. At least she is still wanting to quit and is trying. I have heard that it takes smokers many tries sometimes.

@marguicha ........A true friend wouldn't offer a cig if they knew you were trying to quit.

@celticeagle I know. But there are people who are just acquaintances who want to be polite.

I saw that movie too..Maestro. I could not believe how much he and his wife smoked. They must have both smelled like ashtrays. She was still smoking after being diagnosed with cancer too I noticed.

@marguicha my father quit smoking when I was 8. He gave it up for me. He told me how hard it was to do.
