Do you keep your old journals?

Today I started to search for something and I found my old journal. It's so interesting to see my way of thinking. I think I was depressed since I was 17 years old. I was very shy and my thoughts were too profound. I felt like an old person. I admired other people more than I should. My brother made fun of me since I was a kid. I could see the same pattern, the lack of support from my family. Finding it was very interesting, but anyone can find it and read it. I kept my old journals because I wanted to see how I changed.

When I was nineteen, I threw away my childhood and teenage journals. I was going overseas, and I figured if my plane went down, and my parents came across my old journals, they’d feel terrible. I was such a depressed kid, and the journals would undoubtedly have made my parents cry. So, to save them any extra potential pain, I got rid of them, just in case. Obviously, there were no plane crashes, but I don’t regret tossing them. Although, in general, I think it’s a good idea to keep them.

If they would make our parents feel terrible it's better to get rid of them.

I never had any old journals. I never saw the need for any. I do have poems that I wrote when I was a teen.

Do you still write poems? Maybe you expressed your feelings through poetry.

I am afraid that someone can read them. I kept everything, but my mom got rid of a special notebook. I still search for it. It had a lot of pictures and beautiful memories. I can't forget that notebook.

Yes, they have some good and bad memories. I had one with good memories and I think that my mom got rid of it. This happened when I was a kid.

I started journals 40 years ago. I don't write every day, but it's a way for me to remember events when I forget them. I have 11, I think.

@dya80dya I write both. I've always been able to express my feelings better on paper.

You have many journals. They are a good way of remembering events. Did you write there only events or you talk about your feelings too?

My journal was stolen by my teenage niece and she forgot where she left it . That's good to know your journal is still with you and saw the changes you have made in yourself.

Many times teenagers steal journals because they are very curious.
