Do you keep your old journals?

Today I started to search for something and I found my old journal. It's so interesting to see my way of thinking. I think I was depressed since I was 17 years old. I was very shy and my thoughts were too profound. I felt like an old person. I admired other people more than I should. My brother made fun of me since I was a kid. I could see the same pattern, the lack of support from my family. Finding it was very interesting, but anyone can find it and read it. I kept my old journals because I wanted to see how I changed.

When I was nineteen, I threw away my childhood and teenage journals. I was going overseas, and I figured if my plane went down, and my parents came across my old journals, they’d feel terrible. I was such a depressed kid, and the journals would undoubtedly have made my parents cry. So, to save them any extra potential pain, I got rid of them, just in case. Obviously, there were no plane crashes, but I don’t regret tossing them.
Although, in general, I think it’s a good idea to keep them.

I started journals 40 years ago. I don't write every day, but it's a way for me to remember events when I forget them. I have 11, I think.

@dya80dya I write both. I've always been able to express my feelings better on paper.
