The Truth of My Cable Matter

I have had cable with the same company here in Boise since the late 90's. About 25 years. I think we should get a break like my grandmother did. She had subscribed to Reader's Digest for so many years that she got a letter at one point telling her she would get her subscriptions for $0 from then on. You know that isn't happening nowadays. We also get internet, 2 DVRs and I get the 'service guard'($5)so I don't have to pay for the cable guy coming out. It comes to $281.43 including taxes, fees, and surcharges. And they are raising it another $15.29. Plus we pay $9.20 each month for a sports surcharge we don't even utilize. We don't watch sports of any kind. I think we are going to cancel our cable. But in checking out the Philo app, which is the app I wanted to get that has most of the cable channels that we now enjoy. I am still looking. My Roku TV may be an older model that won't except Philo. We will see. I am still checking for options. But, I know I am tired of paying nearly $300. I am still researching and haven't made a move yet.

I haven't had cable for around 15 years now. Yes think what you could do with that $300.

@RebeccasFarm ......Their grant closes on Feb.7th. I appreciate the info but I don't want the government to have possible access to my internet. Know what I mean? Thank you though, okay?

Ours is $270.15; and I think the cable company should be ashamed to charge that much. Have a good day.

@celticeagle They all know what the other is doing; and they keep their prices about the same. The increase their prices on a regular basis, a little bit at a time, thinking that people won't cancel for a $5-10 increase, especially when the other services are charging the same amount. They are so crooked.

That is just too much for cable services. I hope that you can find some free apps that will provide you with some hours of good entertainment. I know that television streaming greatly differs from our country to yours.

Your "cable" sounds like mine! I decided that paying over $200.00 a month for the service was WAY too much!!! I bought a Roku box from Ebay and am just now feeling good enough to install it. All I need to do is find an internet provider for the Roku and my computer and I will be happier than a pig in mud. I'm paying my cable company now for so many channels that I don't watch...I might watch 8 or 10 out of the150+ which includes sports channels and also Spanish channels...I am fairly sure that in the long run the time spent on the research will be well worth the time in money saved. I received a notice that my cable company is "gifting" us with Disney Basic for free. Wow, how generous!

I love my Roku TV. There are a lot of free apps. We are on our way to being cable-free. Just a matter of time.
