Queen Margrethe II of Denmark passed her throne to her son, now King Frederik X. Thousands of people gathered to attend the historic occasion in the capital city, Copenhagen amidst freezing cold. Denmark is among some of the countries with one of the oldest monarchies. So does this news sounds interesting to you or just passe? News source :

I had not known. Does the king or queen actually have political power there?

@TheHorse I don't think that they would be beyond any nominal powers. Denmark is a participatory democracy and sometimes I wonder why they still persist with monarchy?

@LadyDuck Yet I think in general, the Prime Minister and King or Queen would be in a good and cordial relationship!

@TheHorse The King of Denmark is the head of state and commander-in-chief of the Danish Defense. He has the power to choose and dismiss the Prime Minister or any Minister of Government with or without cause. As a matter of fact, in his country, he has more powers than the King of England in the UK.

I have read the past days in the European newspapers. I am not interested in monarchies.

I think monarchies are not of interest any more, except perhaps some in the Middle East and UK.
